Book Description

Xandra Vardan thought life would be simpler when she accepted the goblin crown and became their queen, but life has only become more complicated. Everyone -- vampires, werewolves and humans -- wants the goblins on their side, because whoever has the goblins -- wins.

Queen Victoria wants her head, Alpha wolf Vex wants her heart, and she still doesn't know the identity of the person who wanted her blood. What she does know is that a project from one of the 'secret' aristocrat labs has gotten free and she's the only one who can stop the perfect killing machine -- a sixteen year-old girl. With human zealots intent on ridding the world of anyone with plagued blood and supernatural politics taking Britain to the verge of civil war, Xandra's finding out that being queen isn't all it's cracked up to be, and if she doesn't do something fast, hers will be the shortest reign in history.

The fantastic conclusion to the series that started with the spectacular undead steampunk debut, God Save the Queen and The Queen is Dead.

About the Author

Kate Locke is a shameless anglophile who wrote her first book at age 12. Fortunately, that book about a British pop band is lost forever. During 'off' hours Kate often screeches along to Rock Band (being a rock star was her second career choice if the writing thing didn't work out), watches BBC America, or plays with makeup. She loves history, the paranormal, horror, and sparkly things. Find out more about Kate Locke and on twitter @KLockework.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Live The Queen November 13, 2013
Long Live The Queen is the third and final book in The Immortal Empire trilogy by the fantabulous Kate Locke.
Unfortunately Kate's writing is so incredibly fantastic that I'd finished this book in no time. the house could have burned down around me and I wouldn't have had a clue, but it means no more of this unbelievably good series set in a richly detailed world with extremely likeable characters and a completely original and addictingly, intriguing plot.
So this is it, we've finally come to the bittersweet end, I really didn't want to have to say goodbye, I'm so invested in these books, this series and although I feel that the series ended perfectly, I still want more!

Maybe a spin-off, short stories or something, I need my fix!

Everything came to a close so well with no unanswered questions left for the reader to sit and wonder about.

I think that the addition of Ali was a stroke of genius on Kate's part, I thought that something might come out of Vandra's captivity in the labs, in the second book 'The Queen Is Dead', but not that, never in a million years would I have guessed that it would be a road that Kate would go down, but I'm so glad that she did, I feel that Vandra's needed an opponent who was worthy and at her level.

I was also very surprised by the reveal of the mastermind of all the experiments taking place in the labs, I really had no clue myself so it was a very good shock and totally unexpected on my part.

All of my favorite characters made their appearance in this finale, it should set a benchmark of how exactly to end a successful and popular series.

I implore all of you that haven't yet picked up these books to get on it because you are missing out!

This series is definitely one of my favorites and I will be eagerly awaiting whatever Kate releases in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars My First Pre-Order! November 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this series. In fact, I love the whole world that Kate Locke built for this series.

Without going into spolierific territory, this third book was everything I wanted it to be. Questions were answered, issues were resolved and the dust settled in ways I totally hadn't expected it to.

Although I am the first person to gripe when a writer tries to take a success into ten or more sequels, I really hope that this is not the end of this world or these characters for us. Although conflicts were resolved, I'd like to see Locke at least revisit this world once in a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun steampunk inspired adventure March 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Xandra Vardan has finally accepted the goblin crown and sits as their official matriarch. Life has never been more complicated since the factions are all vying for the goblins to be on their side (except the humans). Things are even further complicated when a creature created by the nefarious labs experimenting on halvies is going around killing people with the ability to shapeshift to look like anyone. The already strained relationship between aristocrats and humans is pushed to the breaking point, which will possibly lead up to another uprising. Xandra has to figure out a way to unite against all the factions against whoever is behind the mad scientist labs in order to keep everything from descending into chaos.

I've been eagerly waiting for the last installment of the Immortal Empire series. I love the world it's set in and each book reveals more and more about it. It's not the typical steampunk and is set in modern times with modified Victorian sensibilities and fashions because she still holds the throne. Technology and society have still progressed, but are all colored with a Victorian lens. The glimpses of the other countries are also intriguing. Since the United States don't have the aristocracy, vampires and werewolves are revered actors, performers, and inhabit popular culture. Also, seeing people from history in much different roles than what they were remembered for is fun to read and hard to predict. The world is a unique mishmash of the two time periods and it's addictive. I think this is the last Xandra's story, but I hope other stories are told within this awesome world.

The plot takes off at breakneck speed and doesn't stop. It had so many crazy twists and turns that I couldn't guess what would happen next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Long live the queen February 27, 2014

It was a good ending for the trilogy. There was a lot of build up and then it seem to warp it's self a little too quickly and too neat and tidey for my liking. Over all I liked the series and have recommended it to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun series for fantasy/alternate reality fans February 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started this series with God Save the Queen during one of my trips to London. It was an engrossing and quick read, very well written with no glaring editing errors to take you out of a well thought-out and well built alternate world.

Book two (The Queen is Dead) was already out stateside when I came back, and I gobbled that up as well. I had to wait a while for three (don't you hate that?) but it was well worth it.

No spoilers - just know that the writing in this third book of the trilogy remains tight and true to the first book, a rarity in the genre.
