The Long Mile
The Shango Mysteries Clyde W. Ford Life takes a wrong turn for NYPD Officer John Shannon. Accused of killing a fellow officer John is sent to prison for two years. While locked down John meets Promise, a man full of wisdom that changes the way he thinks about like and certain situations. When his conviction is over turned John is released from prison but he isn't free at last. John returns home to find his thirteen-year-old son is in a gang and now he is missing. Homeland Security wants a piece of him and so does the FBI. And to make matters worse his wife needs time to find herself. John races against the clock to find his son, to find out who framed him and to prove his innocence. For John the streets are full of drug lords, the Mob and crooked cops that need him out of the way. The Long Mile is the first of the Shango Mysteries. An excellent mystery full of suspense and a character you root for. You will anxiously await the next mystery. Mahogany Media Review reviewed by: Dawnny

This review is from: The Long Mile: The Shango Mysteries (Paperback)
Clyde W. Ford has written a fast paced, heartfelt, mystery driven by a father's determination to find his teenage son that may be lost in the underground world of crime. The main character, John Shannon, is a husband, father, policeman, and now ex-con, who is trying to put his life and family back together. What makes this story unique is the guidance Shannon receives from an unlikely source-a fellow inmate in prison for life. Charles Promise has discovered the secret to understanding one's own destiny. As Shannon goes from one crisis to another, Promise's words help him accept his destiny. Ford uses his psychology background in an unobtrusive but effective way. I found the Long Mile not only a good read, but food for thought about my own destiny.
