5.0 out of 5 stars Catie lives up to her usual.....
Catie Curtis lives up to her usual singer songwriter talents in her latest endeavor, Long Night Moon. However, the quality of this album surpasses her other CD's which I would rate at least 4 out of a high 5. Her writing is more mature and insightful and the music more varied. I look forward to the next one and the one following. Catie is a rare gem!

I wasn't wrapped in this album. Catie Curtis has a great voice and the production is excellent, but the lyrics and the subject matter were a bit twee. She's obviously rejoicing in life with her kids and all and giving out messages about how great this planet is and how we need to care for it and each other, but listening to this album was a bit like going to a meeting of...

I've owned (and not frequently listened to) two earlier albums by Catie Curtis. By chance, I've given this one enough listens to get to know it. And I like what I hear. I'm going to go back and get to know the earlier ones in my collection.

This album reflects both a social conscience of trying to make the world a better place when you leave it than it was when you entered it (Passing Through). It also has considerable sass ("Hey California"), a very musical and whimsical comparison of life in Beantown and life in California (more specifically LA).

The album is well produced, with Ms. Curtis' voice the first instrument, but also has a full "background section" of guitar, bass, drums, etc., limited to times when it is appropriate.

I'm not quite sure whether I'd call this a great "singer/songwriter" album or a great "contemporary folk" album. Either way, it's great.

I purchased this after reading a review in Adoptive Families. I have enjoyed listening to every track...but Goodnight Moon is still my favorite. Catie Curtis is so talented...I just wish I would have found her earlier!
Well worth the money...I highly recommend the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ocean of Dreams, November 8, 2006

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since Catie Curtis' brilliant "Truth From Lies" brought her a national audience. Her self titled CD in 1997, "Crash Course in Roses" in 1999, "My Shirt Looks Good on You" in 2001 & "Dreaming in Romance Languages" in 2004 followed. She has consistently shown a stunningly original sense of melody with great lyrical complexity. "Long Night Moon" continues this tradition of excellence, being one of her most satisfying sets.

The delightful opening track "Find You Now" pulses appealingly. "Strange" percolates with Catie's finger-style guitar & producer Lorne Entress' mandolin, "I remember when you said to me, that candy that you fed to me, anyone could leave someone." "Water & Stone" is a track whose lovely melody and pulsing beat grow on you along with Mary Chapin Carpenter joining on harmony, "All that you want, why I never knew, all that you wanted to lose." "It's a Wonder" has an airy melody placed in a gentle acoustic setting that celebrates the joy of having a person to love. "Rope Swings & Avalanches" addicts you with its breezy melody about letting go. "People Look Around" was written with Mark Erelli with a catchy melody & a strong political message, "When the water is rising & there is no higher ground, you can wave your hands up on the roof, but you might be left to drown." It's excellent. "Passing Through" is also an excellent song written with Mark Erelli with its gentle refrain urging us to try to leave the world a better place than we find it. "Hard Times with Goodbyes" is a cheerful tune, "Make the world a little better, pass some love along." The set ends with the title track, a gentle lullaby that says goodnight. This mostly acoustic set highlights some of Catie's best vocals & songwriting, a jewel among a VERY strong body of work." Enjoy!

She's obviously rejoicing in life with her kids and all and giving out messages about how great this planet is and how we need to care for it and each other, but listening to this album was a bit like going to a meeting of happy clappers. It didn't work for this Aussie.

You know, I purchased this c-d upon hearing the track "WATER & STONE".When I played the entire disc the first time, I really wasn't that impressed. But,as I heard other tracks played on the radio, I realized how good this recording is. Catie is an excellent singer-songwriter,worthy of attention. Pick up this c-d, you will not be disappointed, J.C.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great work by Catie..., September 12, 2006
This review is from: Long Night Moon (Audio CD)
Another home run by Catie Curtis. This folk-rocker is very special, indeed. Memorable tracks off this album are "It's a Wonder", "People Look Around", and "Passing Through."

A fantastic work throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Curtis' Best Album To Date (2008), December 27, 2008
This review is from: Long Night Moon (Audio CD)
This is Curtis' best album to date IMO, much much stronger than the weak follow-up "Sweet Life". Showcases her super-catchy songwriting, performance, and great production values as well. Great album.
