Book Description

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine February 1, 1996
Centuries ago, the Supreme Ruler of the planet Jibet fled a democratic uprising, taking with him many priceless works of art. Now Quark's greed leads Commander Sisko and his crew to the lost treasures -- and to the Supreme Ruler himself, preserved in cryogenic suspension.

The discovery sparks unrest on Jibet, and launches an alien armada against Deep Space Nine ™. As Dr. Bashir struggles to keep the dying ruler alive, Jake and Nog uncover deadly evidence of lingering Cardassian treachery. Now, Sisko must somehow keep the mysteries of the past from destroying all hope for DS9's future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old crimes cast long shadows, December 2, 2007

This review is from: The Long Night (Star Trek Deep Space Nine, No 14) (Mass Market Paperback)
As this novel opens the leader and ruling house of an alien race is fleeing from a bloody revolution. The plan is for the refugees to travel to a far off planet to start anew. They were to go into cold sleep in order to survive the long journey.

The action picks up 800 years later, on Deep Space Nine where word of the missing ship rumors of the missing ship have begun to circulate. The possible discovery of the missing ship has drawn interest from all over the quadrant, fortune hunters who wanted the treasures rumored to be on board, some who wanted to know the fate of the missing ship - for various reasons. Sisko has always had a fascination with the missing ship and eagerly took the Defiant out to investigate the find. Unfortunately it soon became apparent that word had leaked out far beyond the station when other ships began arriving, all intent to stake a claim on the ship. Jake and Nog had accidently discovered just how the information had become so widespread but the discovery had put them in danger.

This is a typical tie-in novel, set about halfway through the series. The plot is clever and well crafted. The only sour notes in this otherwise well written work are a surprising lack of attention to the 'canon' set down by the original television episodes. The details are small, careless errors but annoying to fans (and who else would be reading this?).

2.0 out of 5 stars Not memorable, March 10, 2003
This review is from: The Long Night (Star Trek Deep Space Nine, No 14) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book occurred a couple of years into the series so the characters were still being fleshed out so the focus was more on finding new missions to write about. While everything was traced back to Cardassian involvement showing the same narrow focus that the first few seasons did. Also the books needed to get broader in scope and characterization. This book was a slow start and the only part that was true to the series was the Quark and Odo conflict.

I couldn't put this book down. It was exciting and plain and simply a great story. I thought the characters were very well written as well.
