5.0 out of 5 stars Great book very interesting
Though it has been a while since i have read this book I still know it is a great book. I think it is the best of the series because it has a lot of action. Some people dont know the books very well but here is the correct order of books. Redwall, Mossflower, Mattimeo, Mariel of Redwall, Salamandastron, Martin the Warrior, The Bellmaker, Outcast of Redwall, Pearls of...

3.0 out of 5 stars All the same
I loved the first redwall book but then i went on with the series, and every book is the same story. Even the little details like bloodwrath badger lords always dreaming about a villian and a young mouse, hare, etc. that is becoming a warrior. Although I'd give this about 4 stars, it was to familiar a story. They added in Camp Tussick, the little ridge, and the whole...

This review is from: The Long Patrol (Redwall, Book 10) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the greates Redwall book to ever come out. The beginning has a young hare called Tammo who runs away from home to as the book suggests, fight with the long patrol, comprised of elite fighting hares. He dashes off with the squirrel, Russa Nodrey, and has many adventures. However, as always, there is a evil warlord that is trying to become the ruler of the world. This warlord is none other then the greatrat Damug Warfang. WIth a thousand at his back, he plans to kill, plunder, and conquer. It is up to Tammo and the long patrol to stop this great army from reaching the gates of Redwall. Meanwhile, at Redwall, the south wall is collapsing! This book is, as i have already said, my favorite one in the whole series. It has action, and the riddles that are famous of Jacques.

I liked the book because it was exciting and full of action. I think that if people read the books by Brian Jacqures they will enyoy the books as much as I did. The books are long but it is worth it. I also liked the book because some of the characters were funny. I think that the Long Patrol is a good book.

I thought that is was an excellent book from the Redwall series. Once again the perilous hares of the Long Patrol come and save the day. When the Long Patrol finds a new recruit named Tammo, who can throw a dirk with the best of them, they find out that vermin are on the move towards Mossflower again. When they finally reach Redwall Abbey, they find the south wall is crumbling to pieces. During the counsel of war, young Tammo falls asleep and delivers a message from the great warrior mouse, Martin. It says the battle must be fought somewhere else. They must get Midge Manycoats to dress Tammo and himself up as vermin, so they can pass themselves off to the vermin at camp. When they get to camp they say they are seers of the future and they should fight at what is now called "A Thousands Ridge." They march over and find 300 Redwallers. I will not give away the end, but it is a exciting ending. I know because I have read every single Redwall book.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is an all-around great book, filled with imagination., July 26, 1998

This is a definite must-buy for readers. I wouldn't recommend it to people who have never read a Redwall book before, because you need to know a bit about Redwall before you read it. But, if you want to read a funny, clever, detailed, action-packed book, not to mention hungering( the Redwallers make good food), then I suggest this. It makes you feel that you're there. And, unlike some books, it's has action starting at the beginning, and lasting all the way through. It's the kind of book that makes you keep reading: I couldn't put the book down unless I had read 50 or so pages. In a nutshell, it's about a young hare who wanted to join a group of warrior hares called the Long Patrol to do battle with them, but his father won't let him. He runs away from home to join them. He and the Long Patrol band together to defeat a group of vermin called the Rapscallions, who had formerly attacked a mountain called Salamandastron, where they are from. It's perfect if you like anima! ls. There are hares, waterhogs, weasels, ferrets, badgers, shrews, otters, squirrels, moles, and more animals. Their names are interesting, too. The enemy is named Damug Warfang, and the main character is named Tamello de Fformello Tussock. This is also great if you like war. In battle, it describes deaths in ways like,"The weasel looked down at his stomach as a blood-covered arrow seemed to shoot out from it." The way the Redwallers defeated the Rapscallions was amazing. You think they're going to die, then they are saved. You'll have to read it to find out how. This book also has great riddles, and is full of trickery among the animals. Two hares even diguise themselves as Rapscallions. I loved this book, and I'm sure you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long Patrol, October 22, 2010
A Kid's Review
If you're a reader who loves adventure and fantasy I highly recommend this book to you. The Long Patrol is an action packed book filled with mystery and battle.

In this story Tammo, a young hare, runs away from home only to find himself in the Long Patrol, a group of perilous hares who fight evil. Damug Warfang is a evil rat that is going to try to take over Mossflower, a peaceful woodland region. Damug and the thousand vermin at his side attack Tammo and five hundred of the Long Patrol with the mighty badger lord Cregga Rose Eyes. To find who triumphs, read the book.

This book by Brian Jacques is well written in many aspects. He develops the characters so fully he lets you see them in your mind. Jacques also leaves the reader in suspense. For example, he writes, "When she did see it, Tansy was almost lost for words. She stood awestruck at what the flickering lantern light revealed. `Great seasons o' sun an' showers, what is it?'" Jacques doesn't give the end away in the beginning, he spreads the book out. There are multiple battles in the book, with both good and evil winning sporadically, keeping the reader guessing who will ultimately win.

The Long Patrol, and the other books in the series, are for more advanced middle grade readers. This book is not for somebody who is squeamish because there is a lot of violence, but the reader does not need to be blood thirsty either. It is an exciting book for those who can take a little blood and who can enjoy a good fight.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long Patrol review by Travis Moret, December 8, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Long Patrol (Redwall, Book 10) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jacques, Brian.(1997). The Long Patrol.
New York: Ace books.

this book is about a young hare named Tammo De Fformelo Tussock's journey to becoming a Hare in the Long Patrol. Tammo's father and mother were both Hares of the Long Patrol and therefore, it is Tammo's dream to be a hero like them. Tammo's daring, skills, and bravery eventually make him an honorary hero of the patrol.
As I just said, Tammo wants to become a hare of the long patrol but his dad thinks he is too reckless and won't allow him to go. Tammo's mother thinks it would be good for him to get away so she sneaks him away with a squirrel freind named Russa Nodrey. Russa and Tammo end up right in the middle of a battle of which he meets up with a scout troop of the Long Patrol sent by Salamandrastrons recent badger lady Miss Cregga Rose eyes to look for a band of over one thousand rapscallions who after a brutal fight at Salamandrastron dissapeared. Tammo and the troop led by Major Perigord track and pick off a lost band of the rapscallions army. This eventually leads them to the peaceful abbey of Redwall. They discover that the abbey's south wall is collapsing and decide to stay there to protect the abbey. The rapscallion army is on the move towards the abbey of redwall after a survivor of the lost band saw the sagging abbey wall and reported it to the rapscallion leader, Damug Warfang. Fortunately so did Lady Cregga Rose Eyes with half of the force of Salamandrastron and they have one purpose, and that is to defeat the rapscalion army. The three armies meet on the ridge, rapscallions, the long patrol, and the redwallers, and the long patrol and Redwallers defeat the rapscallion army without letting them ever even see Redwall.
I highly recommend this book to any type of reader. It has something for everyone: poetry, battles, and it is full of lush detail. The characters are very descriptive and the book has such detail you can picture everything in your mind. This series is so realistic and thrilling if you read one you will want to read more. I give this book a 10 out of 10. Its a great book. It is a great fantasy and everyone should read it.
