5.0 out of 5 stars Great concept and good quality!
I LOVE this monitor! I tried the much-more-expensive Angel Movement monitor for under the mattress, but couldn't use it due to interference and tremendous static. I then bought this it sounded like it was capable of good reception. I also liked it because I do a lot of yard work around my house and am outdoors a lot.
It was MUCH cheaper and works GREAT! My father...

My father actually took it for a drive in the car to see how far the range went and we were amazed to learn it picked up baby's noises over our entire acre+ of property and actually all the way around the block!!! (I'm not kidding!) I feel very safe outside pulling weeds or getting the mail knowing I'm not missing a thing.
This monitor is a great buy and operates with lights, sound and a great vibration feature (you can mow your lawn and wear it like a pager. It vibrates when baby makes noise!).
Gives moms and dads great confidence!

UPDATE: I've been using this monitor for almost 8 weeks now and still LOVE IT! It squeals when you are too close to the home unit, but just lower the volume and it stops. I use it all the time! When my daughter falls asleep, I go outside and sit in the yard, go upstairs and clean the bathroom, or go on our computer! LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL MONITOR!, February 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
We recently had our second daughter (our first is only 18 months) so we needed a new baby monitor. I did not want to spend a lot of money on a second one (we have the Two-Way Comminicator from Evenflo, which is about [$$]). After several unsuccessful tries with other monitors, this was the one for us! This monitor is not large and bulky, no antennaes, and it is very lightweight. The sound quality is excellent. There is no static and you can hear every little sound, and no problems with interference from other things in the house, such as cordless phones. Also, the vibration feature is nice too, incase you're doing something where you can not really hear the monitor, such as housework, you will feel the vibration. The best feature of this monitor is that the battery is rechargeable. No need to keep buying batteries. Just make sure to plug it in while using the monitor during the night and also whenever you're not using it, and the battery will not go dead when you need it! The only feature I miss (from my Evenflo monitor) was that this monitor does not have numbers on the volume control to indicate the volume level. This is a GREAT monitor for the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT - SMALL, CLEAR AND PORTABLE, January 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
This is an incredible monitor. I am one of those parents who does tons of research before I purchase anything and it paid off witht this product. It is super small (no tall antennas), the parent end is wireless (the battery last forever), it is extremely clear (I can hear the kids playing outside) and we have had absolutely no interference (we have cordless phones - Siemens Gigasets). I am purchasing a second one for our summer home. I hope you love this monitor as much as we do.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Hearing Impaired Folks, May 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
I received this monitor as a baby shower gift. I had requested it on my registry and was very anxious to have it. My husband is hard of hearing and wears a hearing aid. We have found this monitor to be most useful as it has the vibration. My husband will place it in his hand or hook it on his pocket and when my son cries he can feel it. It's been great for us. As far as sound quality, it works so well I can hear my son breathing. It is very clear, just a little bit of static but nothing that would deter me from recommending it to a friend. We are very pleased with this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Monitor with battery issue, February 24, 2004
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
Hello all:
My wife and I loved this monitor-until recently. The battery wouldn't hold a charge and we couldn't find a replacement battery. The issue was that the portable receiver had a battery that was made up of three 2/3 size AA batteries with an odd attachement-which made it impossible to find a replacement battery from Radio Shack or online vendors.

I called Fisher Price to buy a replacement battery and after much holding and discussion, we found out that there are 2 models of the 900 Mhz Long Range Monitor (known as model B1474), one that has the battery that I mentioned above that was discontinued in 2002 and the new model that uses 3 AAA batteries.

Fisher Price no longer has the 2/3 size AA battery for the old model so we have to buy a new model, which I am not ecstatic about, but it is an excellent product once you take away the battery issue.

Hope this helps

4.0 out of 5 stars Good the first 18 months, October 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
Maybe I'm expecting too much for me to want this product to last a little longer. It has actually been great for the first 18 months of my son's life. As other people say, you can hear every little breath and turn he makes at night, but I've also had the static/crackling problem sometimes.

My biggest complaint is the rechargeable battery. This was great for about a year. I plug it in at night and use it unplugged during the day for when my son naps. But after about a year it stopped holding a charge so well. If I forget to plug it in at night, I have to turn it up to the loudest position to barely hear my son the next day. At some point if the batteries are too low it starts a vibrating humming sound (with the vibrater part off) and the batteries get low very quickly. I tried to replace the batteries, but can't find a compatible replacement through Fischer Price or even Radio Shack.

I like this monitor enough that I'm likely going to replace it with the same model. But it's frustrating to pay they money again when all I think I need is a new battery.

I received this monitor as a baby shower gift just over a year ago. I am now expecting my second child in approximately 3 weeks and the monitor no longer works. We thought the rechargeable battery pack just needed to be replaced so we called Fisher-Price to order the replacement pack and they NO LONGER CARRY THEM. The customer service rep. suggested Radio Shack who also did not carry the battery pack, so we ended up going to a battery store and having it made. The remade rechargeable battery pack did not bring the monitor back to life so therefore we are looking for another monitor. If you are only having one child and plan on waiting a while in between for a second then this might be the monitor for you, but if you are planning on having children close together, I would pick another monitor instead. We are currently shopping for another monitor and may switch from a Fischer-Price to a Sony model that has received excellent reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's RECHARGEABLE!, February 26, 2003

"homequeen" (Whidbey Island, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
This monitor is great. I have used a couple of other monitors and had problems with static. This monitor is virtually static free. The BEST feature...the battery recharges when I have it plugged in at night. During the day, I unplug it and take it downstairs...it lasts well through the day (a couple of naps), and then I take it up and plug it in again. I seem to hear even more than I want to. In fact, I have to turn it down sometimes so that I don't hear every little movement (it wakes me up!).

4.0 out of 5 stars Crackling Problem Can Be Solved, July 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
I found that after about 8 months of using this monitor, it began making LOUD crackling sounds when I was adjusting the volume. I figured there may be some dust settling in the wheel of the volume control, so I blew some air a few times into the crack between the monitor and volume control wheel. This did the trick.....the crackling immediately stopped. So, whenever the crackling started again I would do the same and the monitor continues to work fine. All in all, this is an affordable, trust-worthy monitor which picks up every sound and is very portable.

3.0 out of 5 stars The crackles took over my monitor too!, May 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Long-Range Vibrating Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
I am sorry to say that we found a similar problem that others here have mentioned. After about 8 months of use, the monitor crackles and you can no longer hear the baby. It happens worst of all when you are trying to adjust the volume. Obviously, if you can't hear the baby, and the monitor is nothing but crackles (I'm not talking about your run-of-the-mill static, I am talking about deafening crackling!) it's worthless. Quite a shame, because I really, really loved this monitor for the first 8 months or so. The good things were: it's small, you can stick it in your pocket, it had an INCREDIBLE range compared to the Sony I bought to replace it, and I loved the rechargeable battery. The negatives were: It did NOT have a warning when the battery was running low, so it would just stop picking up the baby sounds without my knowing. Also, even if you DID want to risk buying it, they no longer make the rechargeable battery.
As I mentioned, I bought a Sony to replace it, and I can't say I like it nearly as much as I liked this one in the beginning (it's clunky and has a range of about 2 feet!) but who wants to buy a monitor that's gonna start screeching and crackling after 6-8 months of use?!?!? I
