A great new find!, November 26, 2002
I had never heard of June Thomson before I picked up a slim
paperback called "The Long Revenge" but the blurb on the back intrigued me, and I was not disappointed. So many questions
waiting to be answered - mainly, who was it planning revenge after a 30-year wait? Why wait so long? What form would the revenge take? Will there be anyone still alive in the small French village able to shed light on a World War II incident? How can a potential murdered slip unnoticed into a small English village where everyone knows everyone? This was a book difficult to put down, and it has led me to more June Thomson books. I liked Inspector Rudd's quiet patience and perseverance, and he comes unencumbered with family problems to distract the reader from the main quest.
Ms. Thomson's books were written awhile ago, but stand the
test of time for readers who enjoy English police procedurals
set in small villages and featuring the inevitable pubs! I am
now deep into another Thomson book, "Case Closed" which is also
holding my attention. Definitely a writer to be investigated!
