5.0 out of 5 stars A stellar performance from one of rock's best
John Fogerty has for decades made some of the best pure rock 'n roll music out there. LONG ROAD HOME shows him at his finest--older and wiser, he knows even better the ins and outs of rock 'n roll, and exploits them to the max.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but John sounds like he's in a hurry to go home
The songs were sped up a bit as if John was looking at his watch and thinking "ok let's get through this as fast as possible".

Great musicians but I've heard better versions. The selection is well chosen, but I prefer the Premonition Album a bit more, if only for the time taken to play and the song he dedicated to his wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stellar performance from one of rock's best, November 1, 2006
This review is from: Long Road Home: In Concert (Dig) (Audio CD)
John Fogerty has for decades made some of the best pure rock 'n roll music out there. LONG ROAD HOME shows him at his finest--older and wiser, he knows even better the ins and outs of rock 'n roll, and exploits them to the max.

This is simply a stellar concert. From old Creedence favorites to newer, solo-Fogerty material, the fans--in concert and those of you at home--still want to hear John Fogerty play and sing...which is a good thing, considering he is still doing both incredibly well. Aside from a few snide, unecessary political remarks (Fogerty at one point references "that other guy" on television that night, and how he's glad the audience isn't watching him), this is a concert of flawless, wall-to-wall excitement. Two discs, one great concert, and one legendary rock figure--John Fogerty's music (and hopefully the man himself) will be around a very long time...buy this album and see why.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superbe Live CD, November 20, 2006
This review is from: Long Road Home: In Concert (Dig) (Audio CD)
In my opinion this is a Rock`n Roll masterpiece.I have seen the DVD from the same concert over and over again and I just love it.Listen to this dobble live CD is even a better expirience. When you just listen to the concert without seeing it, you hear much more details in the music. The John Fogerty band is just amazing.Bob Britts guitarplaying gives me goos bumps, and gives John Fogertys music tremendous power.Billy Burnette,Matt Nolan,George Hawkins and John Molo is a dreamteam for Rock`n Roll and make this the best Rock`n Roll band ever.
John Fogerty sings and plays his guitars and harmonica even better than he did in the CCR days, and you cant belive that the man is 61 years old.
All these songs is played with such a great attitude and you feel that the music is fresh and new.
This CD is a must for all Rock`n Roll lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expanded live set allows Fogerty to tackle a mix of CCR and solo classics, November 4, 2006
This review is from: Long Road Home: In Concert (Dig) (Audio CD)
Fogerty always brings coiled energy to his performances and this live CD a companion piece to the video concert (which in turn was a companion piece to the Greatest Hits CD that came out last year)is no different. Spread over two discs this covers a mixture of his best CCR material along with his best solo material. Some of the material from his last CD "Deja Vu All Over Again" is also included and although that album isn't among his best the energy with which he and his backing band play the material certainly makes it fit in with the classic material.

As with the DVD the sound is terrific with John in exceptional voice. Certainly his voice has changed as he's gotten older (some of the material has been changed slightly to accommidate this but you'd never notice it unless you're a musician or singer)but in many ways its become a much richer instrument. Likewise his guitar playing continues to be direct and powerful acting as a perfect counterpoint to his material.

The two CD set allows him to tackle some material that he didn't on "Premonition" and, although I prefer that set to this, both have their merits. Some of the material included here appeared on the Fogerty Greatest Hits compilation "The Long Road Home" although not all are from the same performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Awesome, May 29, 2008

Its just amazing that we are in the year 2008 and John Fogerty is still putting out fantastic music. Th new release, Revival sounds strong on the brief listens that I have given to date. However, the live recording The Long Road Home is just phenomenal.

There is an excellent mix of classic Creedence tunes and solo material. John varies the arrangements slightly from song to song. Some tunes are shortened some are lengthened. An all acoustic De Ja Vu All Over Again is very touching. I love the bouncy delightful Looking Out My Backdoor especially when substitutes tangerines and Elvis are singing with the band on the second bridge. I especially enjoy the banter John does between songs. It gives the CD a very intimate feel.

Everything works for me on this release. Soe complain about the songs being too fast or the drummer adding excessive fills but truthfully those are all good things to my ears. The ability to evolve and vary arrangments is what keeps JOhn Fogerty fresh to my ears in this year of 2008.

My husband and I saw Fogarty in concert for this Long Road Home tour, and that was one of the BEST concerts we have ever been to, and it was at an outdoor venue at Soboba Indian Casino! Anyway, this CD took us back to that great concert! Can't say enough about the music! The CD is in a nice cardoard case that opens up. Hubby is a fan of the old Credence group, and he LOVED this one!

3.0 out of 5 stars A workmanlike live CD, November 21, 2006

Looking at the songlist for this double CD one is struck by how many outstanding songs John Fogerty has authored over the years. Fogerty is one of a small number of artists whose songs are likely to live on.

Having said that, one can't help but be disappointed by this CD. The musicianship is uniformly excellent, but there is no performance that clearly surpasses the studio versions of the songs contained here. Further, there are no long jams (the longest song clocks in at 4:33), surprising given Fogerty's mastery of the long rock song.

The CD is pleasant enough, and if you like Fogerty you will likely like this CD. However, there are several of his studio CDs as a solo artist or with CCR that I far prefer to this effort.

1.0 out of 5 stars Played too fast, too shakey, May 8, 2008

Like many of you, I loved CCR. The songs were relics of the past and well crafted. They were played at a very slow tempo, and that was a crucial part of their flavour and mystique.

Now we have this live recording called the "Long Road Home". It is obvious that John has aged. He can no longer carry the notes or the inflection that he did in CCR. So be it.

But, what I can not get past on this album is the frantic speed at which every song is played. The material loses its authenticity and becomes little more than a night out for those who wish to live in the past.

as usual, all Fogerty stuff is top notch to me. I've been a fan since I first heard Proud Mary back in '69 I think it was, and I still can't get enough of him. Hope he tours New Zealand again soon. There wouldn't be anything of his I haven't got. Cheers, Phil, New Zealand

3.0 out of 5 stars NO CREEDENCE TO THIS CONCERT!, October 5, 2007

I read the other reviews, but had to hear it for myself. John is the same ultimate professional - excellent singer/songwriter/guitarist. And I'm sure he liked hiring John Molo to accomapny him on drums. Now John is a very good drummer. But the extra fills, rolls, crashes kill the Creedence numbers. It sounds like a Las Vegas cover band with John playing this way. Doug Clifford was the right drummer for Creedence; he didn't overplay. This release is just okay. On the shelf next to the originals, I'll reach for Creedence every time, so what's the point in having/keeping
this concert cd? I guess it's kind of similar with the Beatles. The original recordings were so good, no matter how well Paul Mc. played Beatle tunes in concert, they never sounded as good as with the boys.
Plus the amount of time on the discs kind of cheats the public also.
My copy of this will go up for sale soon.
