The best thing I've heard yet from Nickelback,
By A Customer
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
I became a Nickelback fan with Silver Side Up. Since then I've aquired their concert DVD, The State, and The Long Road. If Nickelback fans are expecting another Silver Side Up, then don't buy this album, it's not the same. The songs reflect the wild ride that Nickelback has been on since the whirlwind surrounding Silver Side Up. Silver Side Up had a lot of great songs, but in my opinion, the material on the Long Road has more maturity and depth than Silver Side Up. Songs like Figured You Out and Feelin' Way Too Damn Good have both depth and a meloncholy quality that will make this album endure. This album isn't for the occasional rock listener. It's like 80s rock meets 90s edgier music. The music itself is a bit repetitive, although very good. The lyrics are the reason that you must buy this album.

A Very Strong Album,
By Mack Smith (West Mifflin, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
I think people are being a little hard on this CD, but this is not a bad CD. Long Road, is a very strong rock album, and should only sustain Nickelback's place in the music industry. The first single was a monster hit "Someday", was a hit from the word go, and still remains in the top 40, after 30 some weeks, and making it all the way to #7, that song is just what we are getting used to from Nickelback, "Figured You Out", the current single, is just an in your face song, and it just rocks, now from what I hear the next single is, and I could be wrong, is "Feelin Way Too Damn Good", which is a very singleworthy song, but I would go with as the 3rd single, either "Throw Yourself Away", or "Because Of You", if I had to choose it would be "Throw Yourself Away", which I believe is the best song on here, but "Someday" and "Figured You Out" come very close. Nickelback is a band you route for, and this CD, should be proof of why Nickelback is still around and will be around for a while. Among song other favorites are "Do This Anymore", "Another Whole In The Head", and "Feeling Way Too Damn Good". The album gets a B, because it's a well rounded CD.

Nay-sayers begone!,
By Hayabusa Will "hayabusawill" (Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews

First of all, let me just say that the people who blatantly insult this record and act like asses usually have NOT listened to it. I've seen a few reviews that weren't in favor of the CD, but they actually listened to it and gave a well-written review with reasons as to WHY they dislike it. Others just say "OMG liek niklbak suxorZ lisen 2 reel muzik liek metalica u jackass!!111q!!1!1!'. They're pathetic. Now, onto the actual CD. A pretty solid CD, in my opinion. It starts off with an energetic, hard-rocking track, Flat On the Floor. A great way to start the album. After that is Do This Anymore, a great song overall. A great solo, good lyrics and a good tune, just an awesome song all around. After that follows Someday, the album's first single. A ballad-like song, it's not bad but there are better. I won't go through the whole CD, but one other great song that I'd like to point out is Because of You. Possibly the best song on the album, a great song and the lyrics are very well-written. All fourteen songs are pretty good, and even if you were displeased with Nickelback's Silver Side Up, or were afraid to try because of How You Remind Me, you should still give this CD a listen. Nickelback has improved and have produced a great CD in The Long Road. The nay-sayers here who give this CD one star mostly haven't heard it. Don't let it sway you away from a great album by a band that's not given an honest chance.

Another Great Album From Nickleback...,
By xTragedyxBrittanyx "LiLBrit'" (Echo Park, Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
Ok, so maybe it's not as good as Silver Side Up, but the boys of Nickelback had a HUGE task in front of them to top that masterpiece, and they did pretty well. Most of the tracks are good, but unfortunatly I got the limited editon version which goes on WAY TOO LONG i.e after track 11, I start to get REALLY bored.Flat on the floor...(Very faced paced, with an awesome chorus. One of the best on the album 9/10) Do this Anymore...(The beginning is kinda slow, but it kicks in pretty quick with killer verses and an ultra-catchy chorus. Probably one of my favorite songs By Nickelback, period 10/10) Someday...(Way too overplayed, expecially on Mtv. At first I really liked it, but now I usually skip over to Believe it or not 8/10) Believe it or Not...(The verses are kinda slow and repetitive, but the chorus is great 8/10) Feelin way too damn good...(Very well sung, with a nice, melodic ring to it. It has the kinda chorus that'll get you singing along once you learn the words too, which is always a plus 8/10) Because of you...(The chorus on this one seems almost perfect, right up until the end. The thing is, they try to jam too many words into too little time, and the result is an almost ugly sound. Minus that little detail, its a great song 8/10) Figured You Out...(The second single, and totally stupid lyrically. Still, it's pretty catchy 7/10) Should've listened...(The fact that I can't remember how it goes tells me right away that it's forgetable. Too be fair, I wont grade it n/a) Throw Yourself Away...(Its got a very "Nickelback" sound, which is a good thing. The lyrics are pretty heavy too, kinda like "Never Again" from silver side up 9/10) Another Hole In The Head...(For some reason, the chorus really stands out for me on this one. That alone makes it worth listening to 8/10) See you at the show...(Great (offical) closer. The chorus is great, the verses are great, and the song is very catchy. The lyrics are kinda dumb tho 8.5/10) The Other 3 Songs...I don't really listen to these, at all. But the first time I heard "Learn the hard way" (track 13), I was pretty impressed.

not totally the same as before,
By Ryan Scott (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews

I disagree with the other review that says this CD is just the same as the others. This CD has a few songs that resemble the hard rock sound of their previous albums, but most are different (they dont yell as much;) The rhythm in most songs are slower than before. Some songs are more similar to other artists than to normal Nickelback. Some resemble Audioslave, while other tracks resemble slower Saliva songs. Personally, this is my favorite Nickelback CD to date.

To: Nickelback dissers,

I couldn't agree more that admitting to someone who possesses a finely developed taste for the genre of rock that you actually went out and purchased Nickelback's new CD is quite humiliating. I personally consider myself to be amongst those with fine palettes for alternative rock, and when I catch myself floating into another world as Nickelback's new CD music plays, I gasp, and quickly run to hit the eject button. It is almost a mortification and vilification for a rock enthusiast to actually own their CD... and truthfully, until 2 months ago, I feared being knocked off the rung I currently stand on on the ladder of rock culture, if caught with Nickelback in my stereo system. I've had enough, however, of looking guiltily behind my shoulder when pressing Play, and I've finally come to my senses. If there is any CD that I am willing to loose my position in the "rock society" just to listen to, it's this one. I dear those of you who consider yourselves amid the elite of the rock world and the well-known Nickelback ridiculers to purchase this CD, listen to it with your third ear, and honestly state that it is not worth your time. Claim that the rough grace of Do This Anymore, the somber sublimation of Feeling Way Too Damn Good, the raw retaliation of Figured You out, and the utter desperation of Should've Listened is not suitable for a fabulous rock classification and... Well, then I'm afraid it's you who isn't worthy of having your soul graced with their tunes. I give this CD 5 stars and an additional bouquet of mauve hydrangeas. Nickelback haters, I've come to find, are just those who aren't yet comfortable in their true skin, and scared of the consequences that may arise, should others find out that this is music they care for.:: presses Play ::

Good songs for "The Long Road",
By Chris (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
This may not be as deft as their current album "All The Right Reasons," but it's no loser either. Nickelback is refreshing in comparison to most of what's out there that's considered to be Rock music. But to clarify, this album only has 11 songs. So it's definitely not "too long."What's great about Nickelback is they have their own style and sound. No one is making songs like FLAT ON THE FLOOR or FIGURED YOU OUT. A lot of people try, but the result isn't nearly as catchy. Nickelback is good at what they do. Other standouts include: DO THIS ANYMORE, SOMEDAY, SHOULD'VE LISTENED, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FEELING WAY TO DAMN GOOD, BECAUSE OF YOU.

Give me a break, some of you,

As soon as I put in this new disc I knew they had changed their style up. Many reveiw writers don't seem to like when an artist or group changes their artistical veiws and styles. But Nickelback has grown in the past few years. Chad Kroeger's voice booms with a new confidence, and the lyrical style is more orginized. In previous albums the lyrics would jump from topic to topic, in just one song. I'm not one for band politics like some people here, I just love the music they produce. Others tend to judge a groups music on the group themself, so their opinions are completely biased on the people performing, instead of the music they play on this album. So, forget what the band politics are just listen to this CD and I bet you'll love it. It's one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. My favourite song has to be 'Feelin' Too Damn Good'.

Their latest and their best,
By Claire (Fairfield, CA) - See all my reviews

Everyone either likes or hates Nickelback, but this album might convert some of those haters out there. This being O SO MUCH BETTER than Silver Side Up, many of us are relieved to know that the band has not started a landslide in their career. I guess you could say that in this case the 4th time's the charm. As for the acutal songs, most of them are 'pure', however some do sound a lot alike. The first track, "Flat on the Floor", is very very short and sounds exactly like a faster tempo of the song "Money Bought" on Silver Side Up. Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. My personal favorites are "Someday", "Believe it or not", Feelin' way too damn good", and "Figured you out". If you get the version with the three extra bonus tracks (which is a very good idea if you can find it), you will find the single "Learn the Hard Way", which is also on the Daredevil movie soundtrack. This song is reason enough for you to go out and get the version with the bonus tracks, but instead, you get three great songs. This whole album is the best of anything i have heard Nickelback,(save a few singles from the past) and Chad Kroeger has done a fantastic job of producing the most meaningful lyrics that I have heard of in this band. Overall, for those of you who have Silver Side Up, you are hearing a much more controlled and mature sound. For the rest of the general population, get this album and hear the messages from the men who have chosen The Long Road.

Can't Sit Still,

While track # 7 'Figured You Out' is playing, I absolutely have to move. It has such a gut-thumping bass line, it just makes me rock with it. I don't even care how many other drivers are checking me out, thinking I'm completely whacked, as I sit in my car pounding the gear-shift with the palm of my hand. The retrospective lyrics of track #3, 'Someday' tell a tale of a situation nearly all of us have been through. Love gone horribly wrong and a heartfelt desire to whatever is necessary put it right. If your heart doesn't recall at least one lost love you wish had turned out differently as you listen to this tender rock ballad, you must be made of stone. I also very much enjoy track #5 'Feeling Way Too Damn Good'. Also touches on something many of us have dealt with in our lives. Everything going too well to be believed... and being astute and realistic enough to know it probably can't last. I like this album... I can recommend it with only one reservation. A few of the other tracks are much too metal crunching to be enjoyed by someone like myself, who prefers remarkable lyrics blended with a tune that entices you to participate in it. Nickelback managed to do that for me on several tracks from this collection. That's all one can hope for when they lay their money down hoping for a good CD. Mission accomplished. |
