Long Road...,

This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
First of all, I am absolutely disgusted by the wording of many of the people reviewing this album... and all over Amazon, actually. Seriously, if you're going to trash something, at least spell the words right. I know that you can get by in the modern world with no knowledge of how to spell or write, but it's still nice to see sometimes.Secondly, reviews are opinions. If that is something that escapes you, then you should probably take a class on social concepts or communication skills. Soon. Saying things like, "If you buy this album you are a pathetic waste of space" really doesn't contribute anything. Obviously YOU don't like the album, but that's the miracle of the internet, you can express YOUR ideas freely. Calling hundreds of thousands of people a waste of space because they buy a CD is not acceptable. Finally, on to the album. I've been a fan of Nickelback since I saw them in concert with Creed and they were GREAT! They had an amazing live performance, and only having heard two of their songs previously, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I liked a lot of other songs as well. This new CD is great. Last comment. People complain incessantly about bands "selling out" by changing their sound, and they also complain about bands having the same sound from CD to CD. Give them a f***ing break, people.

Nickelback was one of my favorite bands at one point, but after their overplayed success with Silver Side Up I found my self not listening to them as much, I got this cd only half excited and thinking mabye I should wait or save my money for Korn next month, but after I got home and played this album a few times I was 100% satisfied. Here's my track by track review:1) Flat on the Floor - (9/10) Great hard opener, awesome for speeding at night with you friends 2) Do this Anymore - (8/10) Nicely peiced together, my bet is this will be their next single 3) Someday - (5/10) This just isn't my type of song, and it sounds to much like their other radio stuff, sounds like it should be on one of those evil "Now" cds my sister likes. 4) Believe or Not - (8.5/10) Has a Papa Roach sounding guitar riff, good hard rock sound 5) Feelin' Way too Damn Good - (8.5/10) Has an Aerosmith ballad sound to it, I remember first hearing this song on the Nickelback Live at Home dvd when Chad was making it up as he went along (bonus footage), I guess he ended up liking it. 6) Because of You - (9/10) Great angry sounding song, I wish my band wrote this first. 7) Figured you Out - (9/10) Cool almost comical lyrics and good chorus. 8) Should've Listened - (5.5/10) They need to stick to the hard stuff, sounds to much like a country song. 9) Throw Yourself Away - (7.5/10) Cool guitar sound with nice little slide solo, but alittle repetitive. 10) Another hole in the Head - (9/10) "Old Enough 2", but Old enough is one of my favorite Nickelback songs, so thats a good thing 11) See you at the Show - (9/10) Gets better every time I listen to it, mabye surpases "Good times Gone" off Silver Side Up, which in my opinion is one of the best closer songs ever. 12) Saturday Night's Alright - (9/10) Clever, and nicley executed 13) Yanking out my... - (8.5/10) Another one that just keeps getting better 14) Learn the Hardway - (8/10) Different sounding than any other previous Nickelback stuff. As for individual instruments, Drums, great with plenty of little fills to keep you entertained. Guitars, being a guitar player myself I'm a bit on the critical side this albums pretty much barre chord paradise and slide solos galore with occasional finger taps (Saturday Night's Alright), I like how each song seems to have a different distortion. Bass, nothing special just follow the lead stuff. Vocals, Chads got a great grunge rock sounding voice that definitly stands out here. Hope my review helped. (I gave it a 4 because I never give anything a perfect review) I think I might still like "The State" better, be sure to by that one first if you don't own any Nickelback yet.

Nickelback Does It Again,
By Marc Grenier (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
Overall, i am not a big fan of the modern rock coming out these days. However, after hearing "How You Remind Me" on the radio,i really liked it and went out and puchased Silver Side Up. I enjoyed pretty much the entire album so when i saw that The Long Road was being released, I decided to give it a shot. I was not the slightest bit dissapointed. The album is filled with a whole bunch of rockin songs with good meledies that you can help but crank up and sing along to. My personal favorite from the album is "Do This Anymore", a rocking song where chad Kroger really shows off his awesome voice with his combination of singing softly and his ability to belt out lyrics with power while not making it seem like he is just straight out screaming. Other favorites on the album include "Someday", yes its overplayed but still good, "Feeling Way Too Damn Good", and of coarse "Figured You Out" (how can anybody not like that song). so if you liked Silver Side Up than i strongly recemend going out and buying this album

A Great Album From Nickelback,

When I first popped this CD in I wasn't too impressed with it. After listening to it for a couple of days I have TOTALLY changed my mind. I learned one thing, this CD must be played LOUD to be totally appreciated. If you are a fan of hard rock and you play this one loud, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED! Here's the track by track guide:1.Flat on the Floor - (3/5) A little scattered, hard song. If you like Nickelback at all, or if you just like real loud guitars and hard rock in general, don't miss this CD. It is great, when loud....

I love this CD. I am not into band politics, so here is a reveiw of the actual music you will be hearing. Not the headlines.1.Flat on the Floor - (5/5) Probably one of their only songs that doesn't go soft than hard or slow than fast. Just fast, and hard. 2.Do This Anymore - (5/5) The opening is really strong. the rest of the song is good, also 3.Someday - (4/5) Overplayed. It IS a really good song, once you don't listen to it for a while. 4.Believe it or Not - (5/5) I like the message it is sending. Unlike the last album that was extremely autobiographical, this song does not use the word "I" once. 5.Feeling too Damn Good - (7/5) Yes, seven out of five since I love this song so damn much. Nickelback does not sing love songs, if they did this would be the closest to it. But I can also relate to how they are saying that everytime things turn around and they are happy, things go wrong. And now that everything is going good, it's like they are waiting for things to go wrong. 6.Because of You - (4/5) Really hard, really angry. Like their older albums, except you can make out the lyrics and they stay on one topic. 7.Figure You Out - (5/5) It is starting to get overplayed, but even than, the song is awesome. "I like your pants around your feet" is an awesome opening for a song, as well as probably their most grapic lyric ever. 8.Should've Listened - (5/5) I like it. Chad really shows that if he wanted to be a good singer, he can belt it out. Plus, the lyrics are good. Waking up and finding your lover has left you and taken your stuff. Tisk tisk, someone should've listened unlike their father. 9.Throw Yourself Away - (5/5) I like this song. The sad thing is? Girls do this all the time. The fact that they are using their music to express to tell of thigns in the media that piss them off is always a good thing 10.Another Hole in the Head - (2/5) This is the only song I didn't like. I mean, Nickelback always has crime songs on their CDs, and their is none on this one. So I am taking out it out on my least enjoyable song. 11.See You at the Show - (5/5) Oooh. I like this one also, it is my second favourite after "Feeling Too Gamn Good". When I first heard it I could imagion myself on their tour bus, cruzin' around after a concert and partying all night. 12.Saturday Nights Alright (For Fighting) - (3/5) Meh, I am not a fan of Elton John or Kid Rock, so this was not my song 13.Yanking out my...-(4/5) Good, but kinda dull 14.Learn the Hard Way - (4.5/5) Good but not great. Overall, a really great album! I especially advise "Feeling Too Damn Good". Even their video (which is all over the internet) for the song is amazing.

Very good cd, much better than Silver Side Up. Good variety of rock music styles are shown on this cd. Although there's a lot of structure similarity, which is sometimes very obvious so I dropped it from 5 stars to 4, I still find myself very entertained by this cd. Rock on, Nickelback, don't listen to people who don't even like your genre anyway and feel the need to write reviews on cds they would never purchase anyway.

Nickelback's 2003 The Long Road rocks. I liked Silver Side Up (2001), but LR rocks, rocks, rocks. Big guitar sound, ballsy vocals, big bass, rocking drums...all of it. Based on their radio hits, one would not guess how much this album rocks. I only wish that there were more guitar solos. That's the 80s metal in me I guess. I also appreciate Kroeger's relational lyrics, uncommon for harder music stereotypically.

Thank you NIckleback for making such an awesome blend of music. I am very pleased with this CD and it is one of my favorites of the year. I was starting to fear that Nickleback was going the way of Aerosmith (Bubblegum Pop) but they pulled themselves up out of the "curb" and produced such a kick ass CD. GO BUY IT NOW!

The Return of Real Hard Rock,
By Tom (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Long Road (Audio CD)
Real full range raspy roaring vocals (no whiny whimpering into annoying no-talent screaming), real riffage (none of the predictable drop-D spam on the radio), good change up from song to song, fast-paced....I haven't purchased a CD in years. Mostly due to the lack of musical talent out there (but also because of Kazaa and Napster). This being the first one, it was worth ever penny. Great workout CD, great for cruising, just a quality hard-rockin' album. Chad's vocals soar as do the thick, heavy, catchy riffs and licks. The only negative I could possibly muster up is I personally wish the solos were a bit longer and more involved. This album will stand the test of time.

When I first purchased "Silver Side Up", it was probably one of the best overall CD's I ever purchased. I could listen to it straight through without having to skip tracks I didn't like. It's only once in a blue moon that I find a CD like that. Nickelback's latest release "The Long Road" tops their previous release in my opinion. This CD flat-out ROCKS! If you even slightly enjoyed "Silver Side Up", this CD is a MUST buy! You will not be disapointed.
