Biography

Richard Wayne Penniman, known by the stage-name Little Richard, debuted with one of the most important songs in the history of rock'n'roll with "Tutti Frutti" (1955), which famously started with a shout along the lines of "a-wom-bomp-a-woom-op-a-womp-bam-boom!". It was recently named by the British music magazine Mojo as the single record that changed music more than any other. "Long Tall Sally"… Read more in Amazon's Little Richard Store

I HAVE BEEN A LITTLE RICHARD FAN SINCE I BOUGHT MY FIRST ALBUM ON SPECIALTY LABEL WHEN I WAS IN GERMANY IN 1957. IT HAD ALL THE GREAT SONGS THAT ARE ON THIS DISC. THE ONLY SONGS ON THIS DISC THAT DO N0T REFLECT THE LITTLE RICHARD SOUND INCLUDING HIS FANTASTIC BAND WITH LEE ALLEN ON SAX, ARE RIP IT UP, OOH MY SOUL AND BABY FACE. THE OTHER SEVEN ARE THE ORIGINAL ARRANGEMENTS WITH THAT DRIVING "BOOGIE WOOGIE" BEAT BY THE SAX SECTION. AND WHO DOESNT GET GOOSE BUMPS WHEN YOU CRANK UP THE INTRO TO LUCILLE. GOD, IT DOESN,T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT DRIVING BASS BEAT. GET THIS AND ENJOY. I AM LOOKING FOR THE ALBUM I HAD IN GERMANY WHICH HAD MISS ANN, RIP IT UP, READY TEDDY IN ADDITION TO THE GOOD SEVEN SONGS ON THIS CD. FOR THE PRICE OF THIS CD, YOU CAN,T AFFORD TO PASS IT UP. BUY IT, LISTEN TO IT AND YOU WILL GRIN FROM EAR TO EAR AS THE PAST RUSHES TO MEET YOU.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stereo recreations of 1950s classics, January 29, 2012
This review is from: Long Tall Sally (MP3 Download)
In 1976, Richard reluctantly re-entered the studio to re-cut his most famous records. He was semi-retired from rock and roll at that point but he took on the task - he shocked alot of listeners with amazing vocals, in a time period where it became painfully clear (at least 1972, 1973 on disc) that the King, vocally, lost a few gems from his golden cloak. He sounds great..plain and simple.

These tracks are very commonly available and are not preferable to their progenitors - they were probably sped up - and the "high tech." makeover will still not satisfy the "audiophile" who wants to study the original arrangements.

I highly recommend slowing down your MP3 tracks to hear what the man himself most likely heard during the session(s).
