Uneven, with a couple of super tracks, April 10, 2002

This album is worth buying for three or four tracks, particularly "Common Thief", "One Step From The Gutter Baby", and "We'll Keep Our Chains". Most of the rest seems competent, pleasant enough, and rather glib and smug--although my "glib and smug" may be your "cynical and sophisticated". Songs like "S-T-R-E-S-S" sound rather generic. Not the best of Godard's work, but the good songs incorporate Northern Soul and intelligent pop and vocals that are ironic rather than annoying.
