More About the Author
Lowell Mick White is the author of a story collection, Long Time Ago Good, and a novel, That Demon Life. His work has been published in over two dozen journals, including Callaloo, Iron Horse Literary Review, and Short Story. Awarded the Dobie-Paisano Fellowship by the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas Institute of Letters, White lived in Austin for 25 years, at various times working as a cab driver, as a shade tree salesman, and as an Internal Revenue Service bureaucrat. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at the federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, where he teaches creative writing.

Five stars does NOT do this book justice! These creative short stories had me captivated and enraptured to the point of falling in love with Texas all over again. I caught myself laughing out loud countless times, often at the characters short comings. Who knew that misfortune and life could be such an adventure. This book is an entertaining read, it encompasses every part of Austin that I hold dear to my heart, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. As I turned the page, I was begging that there would be more to follow, I never wanted the stories to end. This collection was brilliantly developed and written. If you get a chance to get your hands on this book don't hesitate, you won't regret it!

So I don't read books to confirm who I am, I know who I am. I read books to experience other lives, but lives that I can relate to and might have lived. I like Austin; this book is set mostly in Austin. I like a mixture of humor and grit--this book has that--and I like surprises. The tales told here enriched and surprised me.
