5.0 out of 5 stars Superbly crafted and deeply inspiring, June 7, 2001
This review is from: The Long Trail Home (Fortunes of the Black Hills, Book 3) (Paperback)
When the Civil War devastated the Fortune family of Corvell County, Texas (including the deaths of his mother and twin sisters), Samuel headed out for Indian Territory of what would one day become Oklahoma and took up the outlaw life of robbing banks, trains and freight companies. Inevitably this led to prison. Upon his release and more hardships to come, Samuel discovered that the only way to escape from his unhappy and dangerous life was to acknowledge how far he had departed from God, to make amends for past wrongs, reconcile with those who had loved him, and to accept God's grace, love, and forgiveness. The Long Trail Home is a superbly crafted, deeply inspiring, thoroughly entertaining, highly recommended novel played out against the backdrop of the American frontier.

5.0 out of 5 stars CHRISTY AWARD WINNER--WESTERN STYLE, August 8, 2002
By A Customer
A poignant, sometimes humorous, portrayal of a prodigal son's return home after the mysterious receipt of the family heritage rifle, with no note of explanation. A winner for both male and female readers.
