More About the Author

The thought of writing a book never entered my mind until a friend mentioned she was writing a romance and belonged to the Maine Chapter of the Romance Writers of America. I accompanied her to a meeting, and I was hooked. Undaunted, to me, writing a book was simply stringing together sentences to form paragraphs, arranging the paragraphs into scenes, then placing the scenes into chapters. If I wrote enough chapters-viola, I had a book.

Little did I know!

Finally, nine books and seven years later I received "The Call" at 10:11 AM on October16th, 2002. The editor of Five Star wanted to discuss my book! The rest is history.

I live in a small town in Maine with my husband, Dave. We have four grown children, four grandsons and two granddaughters. I operate an art studio in my home where I teach both children and adults. Many of my adult students have taken classes from me for years and have become great friends. We have so much fun in class, at times, I wonder whether I should be paying them. I hope they don't read this bio.

I'm an established Maine artist. My paintings are in private collections across the United States. When I'm not writing or painting, I'd like to say I'm either racking up miles on my exercise bike or jogging in a marathon-sounds impressive, but don't believe it. I know that exercise is good for me, but why can't it be as much fun as it looks on the television infomercials that persuade us to buy their torturous machines?

I enjoy spending time with my family at our camp on a small Maine pond or watching television-I confess I'm a reality show addict-what better place to find characters for my books!

I've been married for over thirty-five years to my real-life hero, a man who's supported and encouraged me over the years and still puts a smile on my face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and believable..., November 8, 2005
I was touched by the relationships within the book and the author's ability to carry each thread through without losing the integrity of the characters. The weary, young girl looking for stability, the set-in-her-ways matriarch with the best of intentions if not the most open of views, and the woman who holds all three generations together through shear tenacity. Mrs. Amos' voice is strong and her characters stronger and in
my estimation, A Long Walk Home is the closest to what I perceived the NEXT line to be about.

4.0 out of 5 stars strong character driven tale, November 5, 2005
This review is from: A Long Walk Home (Harlequin Next) (Mass Market Paperback)
Her husband who walked on water in her mind died eighteen months ago, but not before Annie learned he betrayed her trust in him. Moving on Annie Jacobs has become the vice president of the loan department at Portland National Bank. Before she can settle in her new position, her estranged sister Dana calls to ask a favor; while she is in rehab, can her teenage daughter Summer stay with her aunt in Maine? Reluctantly Annie agrees.

Annie is shocked when the teen dressed totally in black arrives. Summer is sullen and nasty towards everyone including Annie, her lover Tony Marino and her two best friends. Everyone tells Annie not to put up with the garbage and ship the ungrateful punk home. However, Annie sees a frightened child trusting no adult as neither her mom nor her aunt have ever been there for this neglected Goth teen. Annie plans to change that by taking the guff, but also showering her niece with tough love as they both begin to heal with the help of one another.

This is a strong character driven tale starring two people hurt and betrayed by those who they respectively love the most in the world. Summer is a fabulous character as Diane Amos provides the audience with a powerful look into a distraught disengaged teen. Though some of the plot seems off kilter to the personalities of the lead pair, readers who appreciate an insightful family drama will want to take A LONG WALK HOME with Annie and Summer.
