This big band classic swings, mystifies and soothes....,

One of their best, from the mid 1970's. An incredibly rich, full sound. The arrangements, unmistakably Ellington-influenced, are alternately poetic and swinging, with unique textures and voicings. The chemistry of Toshiko's Japanese roots paired with then-husband Lew Tabackin's muscular, often quirky, sax work is very refreshing. I have been listening to this one since I was a kid, and it remains vital today. A must have for any fan of inventive big band music.

Big band enthusiasts will froth over these complex, but always accessible arrangements often highlighted with exotic instrumentation.

Toshiko Akiyoshi, Lew Tabackin Big Band at its undoubted best, just swings with tremendous power and tempo, no pretentions, just great jazz.A little too much stereo definition as opposed to todays recording techniques, but these 20 Bit versions are worth every penny. This will become a show piece to demo the HiFi, the clarity of the sound is outstanding. Just buy it, its worth the wait! Would give it 6 stars if I could |
