Bright white fluorescent, every bit as bright as claimed. The slightly wider base will not fit in some fixtures made for smaller incandescent bulbs. Be sure there is space around your socket. They do take half a minute or so to achieve full brightness if they've been off for a while. Haven't noticed buzzing, flickering. Haven't had them long, so unable to comment on expected life.

I've had this bulb for several months now. I love it. It is incredibly bright and very quick to get to full brightness (roughly 10 seconds). Its not like other lightbulbs that you turn on and wait for it to get bright. I use it as a plant light and it gets the job done for some orchids and a small lemon plant/tree. It is the bright blue color, which I know some people hate, but I love it because it has the effect of keeping me fresh and awake. The yellow light makes me feel sleepy, tired, and ready for bed.

One thing to watch for is that the bulb portion is VERY large. It will not fit in an enclosed fixture unless the fixture is large. I have an open fixture and the bulb section really sticks out.

I use this outside for my porch light which is on 24/7 so I always have light if I get home after dark. This is the first one I have found that is short enough to allow use of the globe on the light.
