4.0 out of 5 stars Another rip-roaring adult western adventure with Federal Deputy Custis Long., July 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This Longarm western novel was well-written with the right amount of western dialog, shoot outs, suspense and lusty sex. The plot was a little complex but in the end it came together for another successful mission.

The yarn starts out with a bang of sorts with the ever horny Cynthia Larimer taking care of the physical needs of deputy federal marshal Custis Long. The adventure moves to a meeting with his boss, Chief Marshal William Vail. Since Longarm is Vail's best deputy, you know the assignment is not going to be easy. It appears there could be a full range war in Pleasant valley, Texas and one of the people involved requested a federal marshal to help out with the problem.

Naturally, Custis Long is not too keen having to settle some squabble over stolen cattle, but he has no choice but to get out there to solve the problem. There are numerous interesting characters, and of course, some of them are women so you know that Longarm will be in the thick of it.

My philosophy when reviewing novels is not to give away too much and spoil it for the reader. Needless to say, this western is worth reading.

Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Use of the Monadnock Straight Baton).

5.0 out of 5 stars "Longarm learned in his years of manhunting that expecting the unlikely was the best way to live to a ripe old retirement age.", January 24, 2010

Marshal Billy Vail sends Longarm to Claireville,West Texas,to find out what is going on and resolving a dispute between ranchers in what is becoming known as The Pleasant Valley War.
Things have been heating up with cattle missing and people being killed;but who is to be blamed?
Longarm,as expected ,meets up with some real interesting characters,some savory and others not so.
The writing in this story gets a little drawn out,there is lots of description,some heavy fighting,Longarm is badly injured and almost dies.At times the descriptive writing gets good,as we see here;
"Sure as hellfire in a pool of screamin' sinners,the good deputy is not bluffing.I have a feelin',dear Verna,he might be a man to ride the river with,even climb a mountain or two."
In the end,Longarm finds himself alone and far outnumbered,when a very unusual thing happens.Not only is our hero saved by the unexpected,the culprits creating all the trouble,are even more unexpected.
