This review is from: Longarm and Big Lips Lilly (Longarm #282) (Paperback)

Longarm gets sent to Arizona to find out who really killed a couple of prominent politicians.
As in many of the episodes in this series,Longarm gets into some unexpected excitement in Denver before the main story even gets started. There is a bit of a different twist this time;when the girl Curtis saves from two muggers, ends up at the station ,also heading for Arizona. This story takes place in the winter, while a raging blizzard is taking place in Denver,so Longarm is looking forward to getting out of town;especially when he's going to Arizona where the climate is much more enjoyable.
In what should take only a few days by train, turns into some pretty exciting times, and bad as the weather was in Denver,it was a cake walk compared to what our hero ran into when the train became snowbound in the mountains, and some of the characters that were on the same train, with different intentions in mind.
To give you an idea what evolved on the trip;Longarm didn't even get to Flagstaff,Arizona till page 94,and what a trip it turned out to be.
Arizona proved to be even more exciting and we meet up with some very colorful characters and people with all kinds of backgrounds, intentions and skeletons in their closets.
Longarm smells rats everywhere he goes, and it looks like he is finally going to meet his maker.
How is Longarm is going to solve this mess, and even if he does, who's to say he'll even live to tell about it? All this makes for a well written abd exciting saga in the life of our favorite lawman.

"Longarm placed his glass of whiskey on the table."It's not merciless,it's indifferent.Life is neither fair nor unfair. It plays no favorites and it has no grudges."
"It's the truth. And do you know what? I've met men who are like nature. They have no sense of good or bad.No morality. Whatever gets in their way--and by that I mean whatever opposes them--either moves aside or dies. These people are without conscience."
Another great episode in the Longarm series.
