Book Description

March 1, 1998
A pistol-wielding Hopi kachina dancer and his gang have ambushed the Durango stage. 3.0 out of 5 stars Who knew?, September 15, 2006

This review is from: Longarm and the Durango Double-Cross (Longarm #231) (Paperback)
I picked this up thinking it was basically a Western - I like Zane Grey - was I ever surprised. Well, yes, it is set in the Wild West, the Four Corners area when the railroad has just come through, but the stagecoaches still run. But it's really part of what I now realize is a defined genre - the Western bodice-ripper! All the women are basically best described as "lusty wenches," even the prim little English artist. Much pounding action, with "shapely little derrieres" and "pubic thatch."

The amusing thing is that the writer is really, truly interested in the history and prehistory of the area and can't resist shoehorning in all sorts of highly educational material about the Native American societies and way of life.

The characters' language is a mix of period talk and modern soap opera or sitcom, but let that pass. Hey, it was a fun mix. The extraordinary thing that there are hundreds of these books in this series alone! Who knew? Who buys them all?
