This review is from: Longarm Giant 28: Longarm and the Lone Star Trackdown (Paperback)
This is Giant # 28 in this long running series of The Old West. The series started in October,1978 ,with a new episode every month. Each episode is approximately 180 pages, but once a year a Giant Novel is published with about 100 extra pages.I believe all of them have Longarm meeting up with Jessica Starbuck and her companion Ki.No noubt about it, of all the women Fargo comes across in his adventures, his favorite has to be the lovely, rich, entrepeneur ,and now the owner of a huge business empire.Jessica and Ki star in their own series "LoneStar".
This episode finds Longarm on assignment in Indianola,Texas. It doesn't take him long to wrap up the assignment. However,he finds that Jessica and Ki are returning to port on one of her ships,"The Harry Fulton", after checking on her sugar cane plantations in Cuba.Longarm decides to await their arrival and renew old acquaintances. Unbeknowns to Longarm and Jessica, the Cartel have plans to kidnap Jessica and use her for ransom to force the Government into allowing them to set up their own country in a huge ranch in Texas. It's a huge plot, involving many people, but an unexpected hurricane devastates Indianola and creates the scene for one of the best sagas in this great series. It is well written, has an exciting storyline, several very interesting and well developed characters. There is a ton of action, shootouts galore, and destruction and death everywhere. If there was ever a case where it seems that Longarm had more on his plate than he could handle;this seems to be the time.
