Book Description

Vampires of New England June 1, 2010
It's 1952, a time of upheavals and social tension as America rockets through the years between world war and domestic revolution. Diana Chilton, raised within a secretive magical organization, the Order of the Silver Light, has reached a crossroads in her life. Over 30, her marriage ended, burned out on political activism and frustrated by the restrictions of the male-dominated Order, she leaves Boston for a tiny town in Maine. There she tracks down Thomas Morgan, a member of the Order who she believes may be immortal. She hopes he can help her find, or create, a more dynamic and worldly organization that will use magic to catalyze social and political change. Thomas Morgan is indeed immortal, but Diana never expected that he would also be a vampire, transformed by the faery folk two centuries earlier when he made a rash bargain to cure a disfiguring illness. Now he enlists Diana to assist him in his struggle against the power that he feels enslaves and controls him. Together, Thomas and Diana dedicate themselves to the most ambitious and dangerous magical working either of them has ever attempted. Their plan spans two years and draws several other people into its vortex. Both Thomas and Diana have hidden motives behind their decision, and neither of them is fully aware of who else knows about their plan and is subtly influencing it. Their refusal to be fully honest with themselves and each other leads to a disaster beyond their worst nightmares. They are forced to confront the deadly consequences of their fully developed spell turning against them and those who helped them. Ultimately, they learn that the only way to get what they each wanted is to accept the very things they wished most desperately to avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting vampire thriller, August 9, 2010
In 1952 Boston, recently divorced thirtyish Diana Chilton has belonged to the Order of the Silver Light her entire life. However, she decides she has no reason to stay since her marriage broke up and as a political activist seeking freedoms for all she is frustrated with the glass ceiling for females. So she leaves for Pepperell, Maine home of the "Hermit of Pepperill Hills".

Diana meets the hermit Thomas Morgan, who was once part of the same order she just left. He has lived for ages because, as she learns, he is a vampire. Thomas was dying from cancer when he begged the Fae to save his life; they did sort of by cursing him by converting him into an Undead who craves human blood. Thomas persuades Diana to help him especially with curing him of his obsession with human blood. However, that proves easier to say then do as the human and the former human spend two years trying to eliminate his thirst. However, each conceals their real agenda from the other.

The second Vampires of New England novel (see Mortal Touch) is an interesting thriller as mortal and the undead work together, but hide their respective motive from one another. The story line loses some speed towards the middle due to the sexual trysts and other happenings expanded too long; but the plot regains the accelerated momentum when the lead couple confronts what they wrought. With a great twist to the delight of appreciative fans, readers will enjoy Inanna Arthen's tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent vampire tale, December 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It is very, very good. The author has obviously a deep and familiar knowledge of all things Magickal, and the mindset of the first half of the last century, with its burgeoning feminism and moral burdens.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the plot held just one too many similarities to her other novel.

I loved the pace. It has the same slow, measured progression as the building of magical power in the spell being created through most of the book. Such a delight to read something like this, by a grown up, for a grown up.

I look forward to the rest of the series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring to the N'th degree!!, September 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't know who those two people that said this book is good, but I'm sure they either work for the author or they are exceptionally easy to please. I have never been more bored reading a book about vampires. I kept reading and reading hoping at some point the long descriptions of them making some stupid machine would end. But it went on for chapters!! I kid you not!! There was absolutely nothing interesting or appealing about this book. If you don't believe me, send yourself a sample through kindle and read it. If you think the beginning is boring and are hoping it's just the set-up part and that it gets better, IT DOESN'T. I would rather eat sand. I would rather sit at the DMV all day. I would rather do ANYTHING than be forced to read this book.
