5.0 out of 5 stars One of the last true rock stars
Originality, talent, and rock. Bobby Bare Jr. is one great rock star. The Longest Meow embodies Nashville's country-inspired edge. Recorded in one day, The Longest Meow has limited "produced" sound to give the listener a unique experience without a lack in quality. To the contrary it is doubtful many artists would be able to create such a diverse and powerful album in...

2.0 out of 5 stars I guess you had to be there
I liked the earlier work from Bobby Bare Jr.'s Young Criminals Starvation League, but I'm not on board his work with on The Longest Meow. Too often, it sounds as though Mr. Bare and company are pushing the envelop just to see what they can get away with, and the discordant dissonance that follows just isn't that much fun to listen to. I'm thinking everyone involved had a...

Recorded in one day, The Longest Meow has limited "produced" sound to give the listener a unique experience without a lack in quality. To the contrary it is doubtful many artists would be able to create such a diverse and powerful album in so little time. Talent is evident in every player on the record. Try something different that you will be really proud to tell your friends you discovered.

Too often, it sounds as though Mr. Bare and company are pushing the envelop just to see what they can get away with, and the discordant dissonance that follows just isn't that much fun to listen to. I'm thinking everyone involved had a helluva good time in the studio cranking out 11 songs in 11 hours. But after trying to listen to the results, I guess you had to be there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe this was completed in 13 hours....., March 14, 2010

Bobby Bare Jr makes some fun country/pop music which almost always hits the spot for me. When i began checking out reviews from major magazines and the like about this album i was a bit nervous due to hearing that it was completed in around 13 hours! That being said, listening to everything you wouldn't know it by giving the album a spin. Each track is typical of what Mr. Bare Jr loves to do and that is, use his whit, play loud and have some fun. It's a nice solid listen all the way through with nothing groundbreaking but everything quite good.

Bobby Bare Jr is the kind of artist who SHOULD make it bigger than he'll ever end up being. This album doesn't hurt the cause in terms of quality work.

There are a handful of beautiful songs on this disc and Bobby has a gift for twisted lyrical tales. Love the sound of the slide guitar and the saxophone. Catch these guys live, the disc does not quite capture the magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars his best yet, September 21, 2007
This review is from: Longest Meow (Audio CD)
I just don't understand why this guy isn't huge...no accounting for taste, i guess. I've seen Bobby live many times and he always amazes me. One of the best songwriters around, he can combine alt-country,jazz,hard rock, and folk into a stew that is all his own. From heart wrenching ballads to high decibel Neil Young distorto rock..sometimes in the same song! This cd is a great place to start for the uninitiated. Seeing him live is a must!
