5.0 out of 5 stars Strikingly beautiful January 23, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The more I listen to this, the more I appreciate the depth of soul behind these recordings. Mr. Louvin clearly performs from the heart, unlike most of the tripe coming out of Nashville these days. He pulls from a number of traditions: gospel, bluegrass, folk, honky tonk, and the magic that he and his brother Ira had generated many years ago. "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" is a beautiful, heartbreaking song; "Cash on the Barrelhead" is wonderful as are "Queen of the Bayou" and "I Wanna Die Young (At a Very Old Age). I was also surprised at the depth that he brought to the old Malvina Reynolds chestnut, "Turn Around." If you like REAL country music, buy this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars louvin you feelin November 28, 1999
Format:Audio CD
this is a great cd. it went mostly unnoticed and thats a shame. Charlie deserves better. Listen t In the Pines. longest train & saddest song in a long time. Katy Moffatt is heartbreaking. Just buy the darn cd and see for yourself.

1.0 out of 5 stars I am not trying to be mean.... April 11, 2002
Format:Audio CD
I love the Louvin Brothers and I love Charlie Louvin's solo work in the 60's and 70's, but this is awful. His voice is shot. Every song here is almost unlistenable. If you have heard him on the opry lately, then you understand. I was so disapointed with this CD. I truly want to say it is fantastic, but it is horrid. The CD packaging is fantastic. This was meant to be a very serious release, but Mr. Louvin just can't pull it off.
