5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Series To Top Them All!
A very fitting end to the 'Texas Empire' series. Madeleine Hardin fled to Texas to escape the horror of what had happened to her in New Orleans. In the wild land of Texas, Maddy tries to realize her dream of running a cattle ranch, the Longhorn, alone. But a lot of dreams died during the Civil War, and Maddie is afraid hers did too--until a Yankee soldier shows up...

1.0 out of 5 stars ...
I wanted to like this book, and I kept giving it chance after chance, stopping and wanting to throw it in the "Sell/Give Away" basket, then going back and attempting it again. But I just couldn't like it.

Maddie was stupid. She really was. The things she said practically invited trouble and dislike towards her, the things she did were so dumb, the way she...

5.0 out of 5 stars Texas Series To Top Them All!, May 21, 2000
This review is from: Longhorn (Texas Empires) (Mass Market Paperback)
A very fitting end to the 'Texas Empire' series. Madeleine Hardin fled to Texas to escape the horror of what had happened to her in New Orleans. In the wild land of Texas, Maddy tries to realize her dream of running a cattle ranch, the Longhorn, alone. But a lot of dreams died during the Civil War, and Maddie is afraid hers did too--until a Yankee soldier shows up. Daniel Kent had been fascinated with the beautiful Maddie, but he never knew why she fled New Orleans. Now he has a chance to know her again, but Maddie is different. Life has changed her in a lot of ways. Dan has to admit he loves Maddie, but can he accept everything that happened to her? And what about the secret she's keeping from him? Evelyn Rogers' books continually and without exception delight her readers. Longhorn finishes the Texas Empires series with Maddie's story, a romance which certainly satisfies and finishes off what happens to all of the Hardin family and their loves in the wild free land of Texas where Empires are made.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book grabs you from the very start..., September 6, 2006
This review is from: Longhorn (Texas Empires) (Mass Market Paperback)
Description from the back of book:

Texas: it was a land of dreams, of unlimited possibilities. At least that's what Maddie Hardin had thought before she arrived and settled on her dusty run-down cattle ranch. Alone but for a few head of cattle, and the rowdy inhabitants of the Nueces Strip. Maddie didn't think things could get much worse. Until Daniel Kent walked back into her life.

Her windswept blond hair teasing her features, her intense blue eyes blazing defiantly, Maddie could still affect him like no other woman. Daniel wanted nothing more than to taste her sweet kisses and feel her soft body beneath his. For though neither he nor Maddie could deny their tumultuous past, Daniel knew that they were destined to share a love as vast and untamed as the wide Texas sky.

* I would have to say that this is my favorite in this 3 book series. This book will grab you from the very start. I was up till 4 a.m. that first night I started reading this book because it was so good I couldn't put it down. Maddie & Dan are very enjoyable & Maddie's relationship with her friend Will was a true treasure. I would've liked to see a little more of Cal & Cord in this last book but there wasn't very much. Overall though this was an excellent book & I'd recommend this Texas Empires series.

1.0 out of 5 stars ..., November 9, 2010

I wanted to like this book, and I kept giving it chance after chance, stopping and wanting to throw it in the "Sell/Give Away" basket, then going back and attempting it again. But I just couldn't like it.

Maddie was stupid. She really was. The things she said practically invited trouble and dislike towards her, the things she did were so dumb, the way she acted was more haughty than I could put up with.

I liked Dan. He was honest, hard-working, and a pretty good hero, except he fell for this tramp of barbie ditz. She thought she was so smart and could do anything, but her attitude was just too much. I didn't give a crap about her anymore. She led him to believe she was a slut, even though she was trying not to, and then she kept saying how she didn't care what he thought about her. The sex scenes were purely the worst on her part. She was beyond wanton, more like slutty.
