"...contains poignant examples of how God's saving grace can change a person...The end neatly ties up the series." -- Romantic Times Book Reviews

Product Description

Although she still prays for Caleb, Nellie Mae Fisher has broken up with her beau. Now, her heart's greatest longing is for more knowledge of the Lord.

Caleb yearns for freedom, as his plans to leave Honeybrook have been thwarted. He must stay on as caretaker for his father, who was crippled in a wintertime accident. He also longs for Nellie Mae, still hoping that she will return to the Old Order...and to him.

Christian Yoder, a young Mennonite man, longs to get to know Nellie Mae better...and to share with her the secrets of her sister Suzy's final days.

Rhoda, Nellie's older sister, longs for more of what the world has to offer--from fancy clothes, to her own car, to a new English boyfriend.

Meanwhile, father Rueben Fisher longs for unity--among his family and all the brethren.

Whose longing will be satisfied, and whose will not?

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Satisfying Amish Tale, September 14, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Beverly Lewis specializes in writing stories set in Pennsylvania's Amish country, and the final entry in her Courtship of Nellie Fisher trilogy brings us closure on another set of well-written Christian fiction. Lewis has found her niche in the book industry, and she fills it very well with entirely readable novels that take you to another place and mind-set.

Nellie Mae Fisher has been separated from her beau Caleb when her new religious convictions come between the two lovers and their families. Nellie is trying to go on with her life alone, but she is filled with anxiety not only for Caleb but for her older sister Rhoda who has left the Plain life, and her friend Rosanna who has lost her adopted twins. In addition, Nellie is still mourning the loss of her younger sister Suzy, but she is trying to feel God's presence in her life as things change in her Amish community in the 1960s. Nellie's dearest wish is for Caleb to decide to come to the New Order Amish, but after his father is gravely injured, she fears he will be forever gone from her life. Lots of circumstances must change before any happiness can be found for the members of Honey Brook community.

As usual, I like Lewis's easy writing style and her characters; Lewis has a gift for creating believable people for whom you care a great deal. This book is very preachy, however; for regular readers of Christian fiction that probably won't matter, but at times it does get a bit tedious. In addition, Lewis has a tendency to tie things up way too neatly, and changes of heart seem to be too quick to be realistic. In fact, if I could I would've rated this one 3.5 for the overly hurried happy endings, but since I do enjoy Lewis's stories and the wonderful world she creates, I feel that overall 4 stars is apt. I do hope Lewis will stray from the formula she's been using in her past two series and find some new twists she can spin in our beloved Lancaster County.

4.0 out of 5 stars The finale', September 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The third installment and final book of the Nelie Mae Fisher story. The ending was somewhat predictable, but none-the-less entralling. As with each novel before, I was unable to put this book down.

This trilogy was a great story about an Amish family and the struggles and highlights of faith.

Was a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good Read!, October 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Highly recommend this book! ALL OF BEVERLY LEWIS' books are excellently written, and all of them, I have read so far,(7) have been just as I had hoped --- they are "page turners" and for the past 2 months, have read one right after the other! They have all been different but similar, in the plots.

She gives enough details about the countryside and lifestyles of the "plain" people, that you would think you are actually "THERE" with them. She also includes "Englishers" as well, so the reader can see the contrasts and similarities of both groups of people.

My aim is to acquire all of Beverly Lewis' books, and enjoy them! Very good read!

More About the Author

I've had my nose in a book, for as long as I remember. When I was about 9 years old, I started writing my own stories. By sixth grade, I'd hand-written a 66-page semi-autobiographical book titled, "She Shall Have Music."

After I was married and our three children were in middle school, I began submitting articles and short fiction to various magazines.

My first book (Holly's First Love) was published in May 1993, the start of a 14-book series for pre-teen girls. Soon after, my first chapter book was published for 7-10-year-old readers ("Big Bad Beans") which later became part of my 24-book series, The Cul-de-Sac Kids. I wrote another long-running series for girls, titled "SummerHill Secrets," which was set very close to Neffsville, PA, where I grew up--near the heart of Amish country.

But it was the story of my grandmother Ada Buchwalter's shunning by her ultra-strict father and subsequently her old order Mennonite community that nudged me toward writing adult fiction. THE SHUNNING was published in 1997 by Bethany House Publishers, and along with its sequels, has touched a nerve in millions of readers intrigued by the Plain culture of Lancaster County, PA. The Hallmark Channel will air the movie, "Beverly Lewis's The Shunning" on April 16, 2011 at 9 EDT/8 Central.

My passion for Amish-related stories continues to keep me up at night, and I'm presently writing the third book in my new series: The Rose Trilogy, due out September '11.

When I'm between writing deadlines, I enjoy hiking in the Rocky Mountains with my husband. Cooking from scratch, playing Mozart at the piano, and making family memory albums, as well as traveling to meet my devoted readers during book tours, are some of my very favorite things. I also adore reading biographies and memoirs, as well as classic literature.

Book Two of my present series: THE JUDGMENT, will be released on April 5, 2011.
