Accessible and easy to use, this corpus-based grammar is full of fresh insights about the behavior of the English, rigester differences and variation across speech and writing. It will prove equally beneficial for those who already love grammar and want to know more about it as well as those who are aware of the importance of grammar but are still afraid of approaching it.
I highly recommmend it.

An easy to read grammar book that ALSO includes information on using grammar in different registers (academic prose, news, fiction, and conversation). Wonderful for advanced learners studying English as a second language.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference, Difficult to Follow, September 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Longman Student Grammar of Spoken and Written English (Paperback)
I had to use this book for my Language Learning Teaching class and there were parts of the book that really helped me out in better understanding English grammar. However, this book is very complex and difficult to follow. Everything is really dense and the material seems harder that what it really is. Without the guidance of my professor I would of for sure been lost trying to read and comprehend all the material.
