Anne Willan's Look & Cook Splendid Soups,
By Dorcas (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Look & Cook: Splendid Soups (Hardcover)
I found this series of cookbooks in a local bookstore Anne Willan's Look and Cook: Fish Classics, Fruit Desserts, Perfect Pies and Tarts, and Splendid Soups.
I absolutely love these cookbooks for several reasons. Each recipe is photographed in vivid color. Each recipe has easy to follow step-by-step directions. Each step is numbered and there is a how-to photo for each step of the recipe. The dishes and recipes are savvy so you'll look like an expert chef. I also like the block style format of each recipe. You get a detailed inventory of the serving size, work time, bake time, or setting time. Each detail of the recipes are listed in block format in columns on the page, e.g., equipment, final product, shopping list, ingredients, order of work, and getting ahead. Each step is formatted left to right for easy preparation. What's really great is that all the equipment and ingredients for each recipe are illustrated or photographed. So if you don't know what it is or what it looks like, you get a picture of it. The cookbooks are exactly what the author claims. "Tailor made for novice cooks, and the step by step photography makes it seem as if you are being shown how to cook, personally by a master chef. Simply turn to the recipe you want to make and Look & Cook (Willan, 1994)!" |
