Book Description

August 15, 2007
The complete work of the Entered Apprentice, Fellow-craft and Master-mason's Degrees, with their ceremonies, lectures, etc. It has doubtless been a matter of comment and surprise among the Members of the Fraternity that all the books which are avowedly intended to serve as guides to the Work of a Lodge invariably contain more or less than their professed object demands. They are usually deficient in the very points that may be most needed, rendering the use of a separate Monitor unavoidable; while, on the other hand, they include a great deal of information on matters with which every Mason is necessarily perfectly familiar, and which it is neither needful nor desirable to be communicated to the uninitiated. It has been the aim of the Compiler of this little volume to avoid both these defects: first, by omitting all Passwords, Grips, and other esoteric subjects; and second, by giving the Work of the first three degrees monitorially as well as ritually complete, in plain language for ready reference, and entirely free from the tedious perplexities of cypher or other arbitrary and unintelligible contractions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look to the East!, March 26, 2000
By A Customer
For the individual looking to take Masonic orders, or for the person who is just curious about all the secrecy; this book contains virtually complete rituals, ceremonies, and lectures for the first three degrees of Masonry. Because of this, it makes an excellent study guide for degree work and serves to aid the initiate in better understanding his transformation. Please Note: If you seek the secret passwords and handgrips of Freemasonry, you will not find them here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look to the East, January 20, 2002

No, you can't read this and work your way into a Masonic lodge. No, there are no "secrets" to be found here. Just an excellent reference work for students of Masonic ritual. As I understand it, many Prince Hall jurisdictions have adopted Look To The East as their basic ritual, and it is an excellent study guide. It is very similar to other Grand Lodge jurisdictions' rituals as well.
Be aware that the Kessinger version of this book has the look and feel of being xeroxed onto 8 1/2 x 11 pages, with plenty of white space around the text. If you are the sort who likes to take notes, there's plenty of room! What Kessinger lacks in quality they more than make up for in their huge catalogue of Masonic and other esoteric research books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Obligations, May 17, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Good general reference on the three degrees, but it omits a great deal of wording in the obligation sections for each of them. Very unfaithful reproduction. Buy the original, if you can find it.
