I am genuinely looking forward to the next book in the series.
Nunja Business
Unfortunately, odd character development and not enough time to establish a clear plot leaves the reader wanting more.
Katie
The pace was fast enough to keep my going while allowing good character progress.

Though the protagonist of Clockwork Angel is a woman, and a short beautiful one who seems to stun any man who gazes upon her (what is it with "short, petite heroines" anyway), Violet is strong, independent, tough, on a mission, and knows how to fight with the best of them: with guns, beermugs, knives, etc. My kind of girl. The mechanical aspects of this novel - the steampunk - are so finely integrated into the story that they actually work well (as opposed to feeling superimposed on some other genre's story). For the first time, I found the Steampunk aspects of a novel as interesting, if not more so in some ways, than any of the other details of the characters. When you read about the Society's Club and Violet's dinner "date" there, you'll know what I mean (don't want to spoil it for you).

Most of the book moves along at a quick pace, slowing only occasionally in spots when the Unlimited POV is overused and there's too much author(s) telling us how characters think and feel instead of showing us what they're doing and trusting us to figure it out (or to leave it as ambiguous as it's claimed to be for other characters in book).

In fact, the plot becomes stronger toward the end, overshadowing the characters slightly, which some other reviewers also noted. Still, the characters remain strong, even those with mechanical devices/prosthetics, and the non-human "bots", as they're called. The characters are interesting and unique, and they remain that way even 3/4 of the way through when the plot virtually takes over everything else. It's a good plot, and this is a debut novel, so there's not anything dramatically surprising with the fact that the plot "took over" and the characters' development/conflicts/natures/relationships may have slipped to the background of the story.

Anderson and Belikov have given sci-fans something to cheer about. This post-apocalyptic steampunk adventure has all the ingredients necessary to make fans of the genre salivate. They have done an amazing job of world-building. The imagery is superb in its detail, but in a way that never detracts from the story itself. The same holds true with the development of the main characters. They are instantly relatable, yet steeped in complexities. Add to that: some dark humor, plenty of action, a few twists and turns in the plot and an ending that will forever be etched in my memory. The end result is a fun and satisfying treat that will leave readers begging for more.

Am 70% in and simply loving the deep yet flawed characters of both heroes and villains alike! Former detective Dale Moriarty's back story regarding the loss of his family raised the hairs on the back of my neck, whereas the deranged scientist Stanford Parker comes across as contemptible beyond reason. Book includes well-written dialogue along with a strong, female, pistol-packing leader in Violet with a great storyline, everything I could possibly ask for with exception of a sequel (makes me mad!) Definite 5-stars and an immediate add to my favorites list!

I really enjoyed this work. If you like a good SteamPunk style story with airships, Victorian style and world domination robots this would be for you. The lead characters are really easy to get into and worth another dip into literature so here's hoping for some future works and stories set at different times.

This has all your usual steampunk suspects--flying ships, people with mechanical limbs, pirates and more. Has a bit of a Firefly feel to it at times. The story is good, the writing is solid. Waiting for the next installment.

I liked this book. Normally not a huge fan of steampunk, I found the world created in this book was believable with just the right amount of tech info and attention to details. I would read more from this author.

This book has a good pace. The main female character is strong woman that is in control of herself.
I won't give spoilers and just say it is a good Steampunk.
