Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

The Meters were the most inspired of New Orleans R&B purveyors, on their own and as first-call backup for singer Lee Dorsey and many other local artists produced by Allen Toussaint in the late 1960s and 197Os~ This classic album, first released in 1972, captures ~l of their syncopated funk hoodoo: guitarist Leo Nocentelli's jazz chords scrape against Art Neville's flavorful keyboards while the truncated cross- rhythms of bassist George Porter, Jr., and drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste jounce a dozen relaxed 'do your own thing" instrumentals. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

5.0 out of 5 stars You must buy this album., June 26, 1999

This is the greatest funk album ever recorded. If you have never heard of the Meters, this will be a good day for you. Even if you have to check your couch for change, you must get this album. The Meters are the most talented funk artists ever to record music. Instramentals are usually better.
