5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all deer hunters!
This book is a must read for all deer hunters. It is not only a reflection of times afield but also a reflection of how these times apply to modern life. THIS IS NOT AN EDUCATIONAL BOOK ON DEER HUNTING, AS MUCH AS IT IS A REFLECTION ON WHERE WE HAVE BEEN AND WHERE WE CAN GO IN LIFE. The author shares his experiences in the field with you the reader. Most of them we...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy the paperback edition instead!
I give the paperback edition 5 stars, but the gift edition is not the same. It only contains short, choppy excerpts from the actual book. The book is short to begin with, but the gift edition can be read cover to cover in about 15 minutes. From Amazon's description, I thought the gift edition was the same as the original, with additional artwork thrown in. I was...

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all deer hunters!, December 22, 1999

This book is a must read for all deer hunters. It is not only a reflection of times afield but also a reflection of how these times apply to modern life. THIS IS NOT AN EDUCATIONAL BOOK ON DEER HUNTING, AS MUCH AS IT IS A REFLECTION ON WHERE WE HAVE BEEN AND WHERE WE CAN GO IN LIFE. The author shares his experiences in the field with you the reader. Most of them we can relate to. While in Illinois this year I found myself reading this book while on stand passing the dull times. This book captivated my attention with the remarkable similarities between life, hunting, and our every day life. While reading this book I was able to harvest a fine eleven pointer that came in while I was on page 50. After returning home from the hunt I could not wait to resume my reading. This is an enjoyable book for all hunters because we have all been there. In our pursuit of big bucks, we get out of the hunt what we put into the hunt. With this book, you will get out of it what your heart and soul put into it. Read this book and take what you can get.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christian's prospective of deer hunting AND life., December 25, 1999

I had a hard time with this book . . .I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN! It is an excellent book, and I recommend it to all deerhunters, especially Christian deerhunters! It's an easy, interesting read and I am going to buy copies of this book for my huntin' buddies, which include my teenage sons. Steve Chapman draws the reader into a vivid situation, allowing the reader to feel as if he is in the woods sitting in the tree stand. Also, the author shares his personal views about many areas of life. This book makes you think about many different things! Buy it--you'll like it!

This book was very enjoyable. It is written in the form of short chapters that tell multiple deer hunting stories that are then compared to ones personal relationship with God and family. Any hunter, sportsman, or outdoorsman can easily relate to the stories in this book. I would recommend reading A Look At Life From A Deer Stand, because it helps us hunters better understand how God, family, and hunting all tie in together to make our lives more enjoyable.

I gave this book to my dad for no reason and he went and bought 2 more copies to send to his friends. He loved it and said that anyone who hunts relates to this book.

Steve Chapman's book is a thought provoking look at life as it parallels deer hunting. Any hunter who is looking for that little extra in life will absolutely love this book. How many times as I was reading it did it make me go back to my memories as a deer hunter and then reflect on my views as a father, son, teacher, and Christian. An absolute must read.

Steve Chapman describes, in a humurous but realistic way, the lessons that we can learn while hunting. This book will challenge you to be a better hunter, husband, friend, father, and Christian. Happy hunting and happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real life and hunting, March 18, 2001

Great read for people who like to read about hunting and that maybe experiencing a difficult time in their life. Either way a great book. Mr. Chapman combines his hunts and true life stories on how hunting has put things into perspective for him and also how he has learned to appreciate family, life and things we have in such a limited amount of time. I would recommend it to anyone. I also purchased a copy for a dear friend and hunting partner who is minister. I haven't given it to him yet but I am sure he will enjoy it as much as I. THANKS

5.0 out of 5 stars Alot of the lessons of life contained in this book., October 21, 1998
This review is from: A Look at Life from a Deer Stand: Hunting for the Meaning of Life (Paperback)
As an avid hunter, I really enjoyed Steve's insights into the ways that hunting can be corolated with everyday life. The special way that he brought the sport to life showing that taking an animals life was not what hunting was all about. The times in the woods with our God and the pleasures of His world. The silence and the peacefulness. Steve's comments on how our children are like arrows drawn in our bows, we cannot hold them forever, we must let them go out into this world and pray our aim is true. Thanks
