5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming, Sweet & Sexy, November 12, 1999
This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
I was hooked from page one with this charming romance between a (supposedly) ugly duckling and a charismatic, drop-dead gorgeous artist. I identified with Esme and her shaky self-esteem, and fell in love with Gavino, not just because he was so devastatingly good-looking, but because he is vulnerable, humorous and kind-hearted as well. The interplay between this couple will make you laugh, and bring you close to tears in truly touching moments. A delightful, "can't put it down" read. Much like Norah Roberts, Ms. Sandoval has a flair for creating memorable characters that come to life and stay with you long after you read the final page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sexy, sweet romance, November 9, 1999
This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
I fell in love with the characters in this book. Sexy Gavino and sweet, smart Esme were like people I wanted to know. And I really enjoyed reading about something different -- she's a scientist and he's an artist. Great job from Ms. Sandoval. I can't wait to read her others in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Latin hunk!, October 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
Esme Jaramillo innocently agrees to a guest appearance on a day time talk show, unaware of the real topic for the show. Instead of going on as a genetics expert she is to have a makeover as a male co-worker thinks she is sorely in need of a new look. This is a touchy subject for her as she sees herself as an unattractive woman, unworthy of any man's interest. Gavino Mendez, the show's make up artist, meets Esme prior to the show and is captivated with her natural beauty that shines from within. He is sympathic as he knows she is but a lamb being led to slaughter.

Esme flees the show in shame and heads home in disgrace. Disgusted with the show's antics, Gavino quits his job and takes off for Colorado to find the brokenhearted woman that had captivated him. He knows she will not welcome him with open arms for as far as she is concerned, he was in the enemy's camp. Yet he will not give up!

What a Latin hunk! From his long shiny locks to the diamond stud in his ear....to his warm heart, a true hero any heroine would be most fortunate to fall in love with. This wonderful story is what romance is all about.....love taking root, sprouting and growing strong. I hated to see it end!

5.0 out of 5 stars A sensational read!, November 8, 1999

This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
LOOK OF LOVE is the very best in romantic fiction. Lynda Sandoval has written a tender, humorous love story that's a real keeper! Esme is a wonderful heroine everyone can identify with. I absolutely loved her and her best friends, Lilly and Pilar. As for the hero, Gavino, he is muy delicioso (very delicious)--a man sure to haunt you long after the last page is turned. I anxiously await the second book in this trilogy. April 2000 and Lilly's DREAMING OF YOU can't get here soon enough to suit this avid fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance doesn't get any better!, October 30, 1999
This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
Look out Ricky Martin!! When readers get ahold of LOOK OF LOVE and get hooked on the sexy, Latin hero, Gavino, Ricky will become a has-been. This story is what romances were meant to be. Beautiful, sexy, warm, tender, funny. A novel sure to make you sigh when you finish the very last page...and one you'll read over and over again. A must read for anyone who believes in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars A romance with heart!, October 30, 1999

Surely, I'd love to be the first to review Ms. Sandoval's LOOK OF LOVE. If you want a romance with memorable characters, that's both funny and touching, make sure you put this one on your list to buy! Gavino, especially, is a hero to die for, both sexy and tender. Esme & her friends are VERY real, and they'll draw you in from the start! LOOK OF LOVE is a definite winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Contemporary Romance!, June 17, 2003

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Look Of Love (Paperback)
Shy Esme Jaramillo is so excited to be asked to speak about her work with gene cloning on The Barry Stillman Show. It is rare for a scientist to have so much exposure - and to be on television! Esme made sure that her mother, father and two best friends could be there for her to support her in the audience. She is a little uneasy after some questions that the gorgeous makeup artist, Gavino Mendez, asked her, but she was too distracted by Gavino's gorgeous looks and seemingly real interest in her. Before she knows it, Esme is out on stage and is horrified to realize that she is actually part of a beauty makeover show where they invite ugly bookworms to be made over. She cannot believe it when she learns that her co-worker, Vitor Elizalde, nominated her for the show. She immediately forces her way out of the studio and refuses to listen to Gavino's attempted apologies. Sure that everyone who has ever known her has seen the show, she retreats to her home in Denver, Colorado and limits her visitors to close friends and family.

Gavino feels terrible about what he helped do to Esme and knows that he needs to apologize to her. He quits his job and travels out to Colorado where he tries to make up for what he did. Esme is reluctant to accept his apology, but Gavino just has a way of forcing himself into her life. It would also help if she wasn't so attracted to him. She reluctantly agrees to rent him the studio apartment over her garage as long as they remain friends. Gavino is disappointed that she does not seem interested in him in a romantic way, but he is willing to follow her lead for now. He even offers to help her get a whole new look so that she can wow everyone at the employee dinner where she will run into Vitor for the first time since she was on the show. As they spend more and more time together, Esme and Gavino fall deeper into love, but neither of them is sure how to share their feelings. Several misunderstandings threaten to tear them apart and Esme seems to have lost all faith in Gavino. Can he make her see that she is beautiful just the way she is?

This romance is a classic Cinderella story, but written so beautifully and with such wonderful characters that you don't even care. Esme was a beautiful, caring woman who couldn't understand that physical beauty was nothing compared to who you are inside. She also learned that what other people say about you is not necessarily true and that you need to believe in yourself. Gavino was a gorgeous, sexy man who had a been a real wild child and was now finding that he could make a whole new life with this wonderful woman that he had found. Esme's friends, Lilly and Pilar, and Pilar's children were fun secondary characters (both of whom have a book written about them, by the way). The book was nicely written, with a well-developed plot and lots of hot scenes between the two main characters. Sparks were definitely flying here! A great read - go out and find a copy for your very own!
