Music That Speaks For Itself,
By A Customer
This review is from: Look Now Look Again (Audio CD)
This record brings melodies that will awaken your heart, music that will stimulate your soul, and lyrics that will sleepover in your mind. Too good to call best record of 1999... so far the best record of this lifetime. Inexplicably beautiful...

Rocking Melodic,

This band is by far one of the most inspired bands on the scene today. With heart wrenching vocals and beautifully written music, this C.D. is perfect to fall asleep to or rock out to. The lead singer has the voice of an angel with the backing of heaven, and her harmonies beat anything else you have heard. If you like Jimmy Eat World, you will love this C.D.

Nice describes this album perfectly. These songs are sweet and evoke perfect dreamy teenage memories. It reminds me of early Velocity Girl with those wispy boy/girl harmonies.

A special Musical thing,

This album is, and i am at a loss for better words here, beautiful. I saw them live and that just makes this album sound even better. Any money spent on this album is definately not wasted. Buy it and if you ever see them or talk to them, tell them to come play in PA again.

A friend of mine told me about Rainer Maria about a year after this album came out. He played it on a computer in the backroom of his store. Let's just say it didn't gel. Fast forward three weeks and I find myself being dragged to the Fireside to see this group he was enamored with. The show they put on was amazing. Totally changed my opinion of this group. I got a chance to talk to them afterwards (which, at an indie show, is no big feat); real nice people. I'm not saying you need to see them live to appreciate the music. Seeing them live just made me understand the message of their music better.
Anyway this CD is great regardless if you like indie-rock or not. It's more of an indie-pop album. The singing is singing, not screaming (although there is the occasional EMOtional outburst). The melodies are memorable and pleasant for emo. R/M throws in a little Math-rock and does a a few complicated tempo changes which makes this album an interesting listen. Look Now Look Again starts off with Rise, a emotional song with Caithlin De Marris's haunting singing above Kyle Fischer's guitar. It leads into Planetary, which starts off very gentle then smacks you upside the head with a hard hiting catch. Broken Radio is a kiddy romantic song about stupid little things people do in a car mixed with a little serious heartbreak. Very catchy. Feeling Neglected has a driving beat and simultaneous overlapping lyrics about leaving someone that make this a memorable song. Breakfast of Champions is one of my favorites. Again Caithlin and Kyle do the overlapping simultaneous thing. These three really rock together. The next three songs maintain that pleasant flow throughout the CD. Look Now Look Again ends with I'm Melting!, a song I'm sure anyone that has been in a serious relationship can relate to. This CD is a great introduction into the realm of indie music. It's very easy to relate to the music and easy to see the strong relationship between the trio. If you get a chance, see them in concert. They put on a spectacular show. Getting the album is a great start though. Rainer Maria is a strong example of why this music is called "emo".

This cd is good. Real good. They write amazing, emotional music. Sort of makes you sad and happy and the same time. A real confusing feeling, but a comforting, satisfying one also. Something angst ridden teens can actually relate to. Very beautiful.

Rainer Maria is one of those bands that has no problem writing beautiful melodies and singing about "how it feels to make out." This band does not deserve to be called simply another emo band...This is emotional, melodic, and powerful. Good driving music.

good, solid indie rock,

This is my favorite Rainer Maria album. I guess I'm a sucker for Male/Female vocals going at it. "The Reason..." is a classic. It's raw and unpolished at times. The funny thing, though, is that's why I like it.
