This is such a fascinating book! I've never seen such a resource on the Old West. It's loaded with so much information and amazing line drawings of the Old West's clothing styles, uniforms, weaponry, transportation - you name it. This is a must-own for historians, collectors, and many more.

This is a fully illustrated guide to every thing related to Early Life in the West.
If you wish to study the Early West, you must have a point of interest, facts, relating to the real history. This book is very good, and you will have a hard time putting it down.
It has every thing you will need, facts not printed else ware.this book is a account which took many years of research, It is a must have,

I stumbled across this book when researching the old west and I'm glad I did. It's exactly what i was looking for-a good overview with enough nitpicking detail to make it worth the read. The anecdotal narrative style is very entertaining, as is the simple line art. Very informative and highly recommended. Works very well on the Kindle.

the look of the old west is a book that intrested me because it was exactly what i was looking for to help me discover the exact look of that period.

I expected more illustrations in an "illustrated" guide. There are actually not very many and those there are have a Sears catalog quality to them. Also, only 3 paragraphs in the entire book address women's clothing in the Old West - and then gets it wrong by saying women didn't wear divided skirts. They did, and the Time-Life series on the West includes old photos of women riding astride in these skirts. Disappointing. This is not a book to consult if looking to authenticate clothing for film or fiction.
