Book Description

September 1, 1998 and up
Look, look! Children run, fish swim, stars shine . . . all for baby's eyes to see. This sturdy board book, full of high-contrast black-and-white cut-paper art perfect for staring at, is just the thing for the eyes of the youngest babies. A few words in curving red type on each spread describe the scenes -- a car races, a cat stretches, flowers bloom-- and extend the book's age appeal so that it will be fascinating to older babies, too. Striking and stylish, Look Look! is the ideal first board book for babies just beginning to look and learn. Peter Linenthal is an illustrator who has taught art in elementary schools for twenty years.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Every Newborn August 27, 2000
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is absolutely indispensable. My son loved it so much as a newborn that now I include it in every baby shower gift that I buy. Waitresses and sales clerks used to marvel at how my son would gaze raptly at each page.

While there are many black and white books for newborns, this one is special. Linenthal's creative and complex images really captivate babies, and even tell a story. One of my friends keeps the book open at her changing table and entertains her baby with the pictures while she changes her diapers.

This book got us through many peaceful meals in restaurants! If only there was a book this magical now that my son is a toddler!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for even the youngest babies July 8, 2003
By Jeni P
Format:Board book|Amazon Verified Purchase
My baby's only a week old and he already enjoys looking at this book - we stand it up in his crib and he really seems to study the images, sometimes for 10-15 minutes at a time; he's very calm and alert while looking at it. If we lay him flat on his back, he even turns his head toward the book to look at it. The clean, simple black and white images are graphically appealing to adults as well - as a designer, I love being able to give my baby a book that not only reaches him on his level, but that I consider to have good design.

Format:Board book
My little one LOVES this book right now. He picks this book before any of the ones we have for me to read to him. We talk about the pictures and I give him the names of the images in both English, Spanish or another language. I agree with one of the reviewers that the images are kinds weird to adults (for me the sun one was freaky looking at first). But its amazing how much babies love the smiling black and white faces and smile back at them. I liked the Tana Hoban books just as much, but for some reason the little one loves this one more.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for very young babies! February 26, 2011

I was hesitant to buy this book because the words are so incredibly lame and boring. (Oh and believe me, they ARE!)But I caved when I noticed my 5 week old wasn't really looking at the pages of the great books I was reading him. I bought this one and let me tell you. He LOOOVES it! He is completely fascinated and can spend long stretches just staring wide eyed at every page. The words are still lame, but when his little eyes bug out in enraptured attention at the pictures we no longer care. I will definitely be purchasing this for the new babies in my life. Great GREAT book for very young babies!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a keeper January 30, 2003
Format:Board book
It's good for your own kid, and it makes a great present. Not only is this book beautiful and adorable, it totally appeals to babies because of the black, white, and red colors, which are the first baby can see. I've given this book to a number of people and am so relieved that it's still in print, because I need to get some more. I LOVE this book. And so will Baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for Infants April 15, 2002
Format:Board book
This book was wonderful to have when my children were first born. They both loved to look at the pictures and were fascinated with it. It would help calm them down when they were fussy and kept play time on the floor interesting. I highly recommend to any new mom.
