Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 2-5-These titles present a variety of inventions, sports, food, holidays, and customs that originated in their respective countries. In each, glossy double-page spreads cover topics such as "Fashion" and "Music," illustrated with full-color photographs, reproductions, and drawings. A recipe, a pronunciation guide to some foreign words, lists of further reading, and organizations and informative on-line sites are also included. On the last page of each book, the author informs readers about something traditionally associated with the country which, in fact, began elsewhere. While these titles are not designed to replace the traditional packed-with-every-fact-you-will-ever-need references, they are colorful and stimulating books for a broad range of readers.-Linda W. Tilden, Cherry Hill Library, NJ

I was wondering when I bought this book how "in favor" it would be of standard American fare (processed foods). Science Lab is really realistic about the health benefits of good, clean, unprocessed foods. I was surprised at how it goes into detail about marketing techniques (your meat may not be as fresh as it looks - butcher counters use red lights to make it look better). All in all, I am really excited to read through this book with my 7-year old son this year. I think there is a lot of valuable information, plus fun experiments along the way. A winner for our homeschool!

I teach Geography to very young children. This book captures the best and most interesting facts from Egypt - from inventions to fashion to food and more! I highly recommend this book.

This book was used to introduce ancient Egypt. This book series has a lot to offer. I would suggest getting one of each!! The kids really love the recipes in the back!

I use this book for homeschooling. It is very informative. I learn things right along with the children. Some things we learn are actually making me upset at the deception of supermarkets!
