These two magnificent albums ("Getting some fun out of life" and "Let's Eat Home"), packed together make perfect sense because they develop the similar approach to music (the star pianist-composer-singer + some fine musicians such as Snooky Young, Rob McConnell, Marshal Royal...).

Dave Frishberg is a real gem of a musician;
his approach to the history of jazz is at the same time reverent and creative, his playing masterful and subtle, his lyrics authentic and innovative. Even his limited vocal abilities have a charm and his singing style evokes the long gone past masters ... But never forget that he is a such a great pianist; the second half of the first CD (Getting some fun...) consists of his brilliant piano interpretations, including the one of "In a mist"; Bix Beiderbecke's famous (impressionistic) piano-classic.

If you love the music of the past decades and want to know whether it can be creativelly reworked in the 70s and beyond, get this brilliant edition!
Whether it is "Dear Bix", a touching tribute to one of the great masters, Al Cohn or Billy Strayhorn medley, interpretation of an Ellington classic or a Frishberg original, you won't go wrong.

More of the unexpected improvisations any Frishberg fan reloishes and anxiously listens for the revelations in the next track, knowing it will be "Soundin Good"

SINCE ALL OF THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM HAVE BEEN RECORDED BEFORE, THERE ARE NO SURPRISES, BUT, THE QUALITY OF HIS PERFORMANCE IS GREAT.

Excellent CD. Arrived ahead of schedule in primo condition. Love it!
