Biography

Every genre has its defining figureheads. Folk has its Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan; country has the Carter Family, Bob Wills and Hank Williams. Rock has its Elvis, Chuck Berry, and the Beatles. In blues, it's Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, and in jazz, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis. When it comes to contemporary traditional Cajun music, there is BeauSoleil. For… Read more in Amazon's Beausoleil Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Not only are Beausoleil the band that introduced traditional Cajun music to the world outside of their native Louisiana, they are probably one of the best live acts anywhere. Looking Back Tomorrow is a recording that captures them in their element, playing in front of an enthusiastic audience. Led by Michael Doucet's driving fiddle and powerful vocals, Beausoleil deliver a delightful set of 15 songs, including the irresistible call to dance "J'ai Été au Bal," the haunting Dennis McGee song "Pa Janvier," and "Amédé," Doucet's tribute to the great accordionist Amédé Ardoin. The sound quality of the CD is excellent, and you can hear every nuance of the concert, from the way accordionist Jimmy Breaux and Doucet trade phrases, to the subtle interplay of the various instruments of the rhythm section. Looking Back Tomorrow is an excellent introduction to Beausoleil for someone who has never heard the band, and a fine collection of live versions of some of their best songs for those who already know and love them. --Michael Simmons

4.0 out of 5 stars High-Energy Dance Music, July 5, 2009
By
Karl W. Nehring (Ostrander, OH USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Looking Back: Beausoleil Live (Audio CD)
The promotional sticker that was pasted to the front of this CD asserted that this is Beausoleil's first live recording, but that is simply not true: Live from the Left Coast holds that distinction. But let's not quibble: this band really ought to be heard live, and if you can't get out to hear them, the next best thing is and excellent live recording, which Looking Back Tomorrow certainly is. Most of the music on this release is high-energy dance music--Cajun dance music, that is, not that monotonous synth-based stuff that passes for dance music amongst many of our youth. This is the real thing, organic music that will make you want to turn it up and break into a two-step. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD will rock your world, December 17, 2007
This review is from: Looking Back: Beausoleil Live (Audio CD)
Although I own so many Beausoleil CDs, I just got this one and I love the live aspect and hearing interaction with the audience and once again Beausoleil outdoes themselves. Just listen and have a little slice of Heaven. "Amede" made me cry in their DVD, so I had to have it on CD.
