Format: Audio CD
Kate Wolf's death from leukemia robbed us of one of the most vibrant voices in new acoustic folk. Her ballads of growing, loving, and living in California are melodic gems, with lyrics that read like short stories.
Her best songs echo in your mind for weeks after you first digest them; a hawk circling the sunset sky will bring you to her enchanted Pacheco hills, her words and tunes echoing in your mind like a dream in the hazy morning of early awakening.
This is a collection, and like all anthologies, it reflects the tastes of the editor. I found surprising omissions. But if you don't know Kate Wolf, this is a wonderful chance to meet her. If you knew her music, this is a gem of a collection.

The songs on this CD are both haunting and heartfelt. Kate Wolf's sweet voice, pure and clean, excels on all arrangements. Along with traditional folk music, the collection includes songs by Tom Paxton, Leonard Cohen, and Jackson Browne. It is impossible to choose a favorite...all are 5-star.

"Hold Onto Me, Babe" and "The Lover's Return" will bring tears to your eyes. Every listener will be able to relate to the themes of unrequited love, lost love, but also the hope of love renewed. The songs are woven together into a perfect tapestry, and you will want to listen over and over again. Also please don't miss "Springfield Mountain Coal Miner," a song and a story that you will never forget.

I first became aware of Kate Wolf after hearing Eric Bogle's "Katie and the Dreamtime Land," written in her memory after her untimely death. Both this CD and another of Kate's, "Poet's Heart," are proof that her spirit and music lives on. Tell a friend, tell another friend, tell everyone you know. "Looking Back at You" is exquisite. It is an experience.

This refreshing look into the mirror of traditional folk styles of music reminds me of all that is good and why I was drawn to this genre so many years ago. The themes are timeless, the talent of Kate Wolf is preserved impeccably and for those intrepid younger souls who seek meaning and purpose in art you will be rewarded by the music and the art contained in this CD. Take a moment to enjoy this musical feast in a fast food world.........

A magnificent group of songs; marvelous singing. We were deprived of a Class A Folk Singer with her untimely death.
