5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of original christmas songs by a country artist
I have always enjoyed Clint Black's music since his first album Killin' Time was released in 1989. When this CD came out a few years ago, I picked it up immediately since that is my tendency with new Black releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of original christmas songs by a country artist, November 13, 2001
This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
I have always enjoyed Clint Black's music since his first album Killin' Time was released in 1989. When this CD came out a few years ago, I picked it up immediately since that is my tendency with new Black releases.

Since Black wrote all of the songs, I wasn't sure what to expect. Thankfully, it was as good as I'd hoped it would be with not a dud in the lineup. My favorite tune "Christmas For Every Boy & Girl" has an epic feel to it, the London Symphony orchestra helping Black create new age music that John Tesch could only dream about making. The thought-provoking "Looking For Christmas" is almost as grand, with a renaissance sound not usually (ok, not ever) heard in country music. The multi-layered religious ode "Birth Of A King" is choir-style singing at its best.

Lest you think Black is all serious about this special holiday, it should be pointed out that about half of the CD is devoted to fun numbers like "Slow As Christmas" and the harmonica featured "Til Santa Comes (Milk & Cookies)" that will appeal to the kid in everyone. A little romance gets it turn with "Under The Mistletoe" as well. To sum it all up, this is one of the best balanced, most creative, musical tributes to Christmas ever. Get it now, while it's still available - and at a bargain price!

5.0 out of 5 stars I believe Clint has found it...., October 24, 2000
By
This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
Clint Black is one of Country music's most talented artists. Not only does he bring a truly unique voice to the table but he also pens the vast majority of the material he performs.

"Looking for Christmas" delivers 9 originals (the 10th track is a beautiful instrumental reprise of the title track). Again each track is written or co-written by Black and it's a nice change from your typical Christmas releases which generally have the artists performing the standards which have been covered by everyone from Julie Andrews to Andy Williams.

Some highlights: "Til Santa's Gone (Milk and Cookies)" deserves to be a classic in its own right. What a charming slice of Christmas Eve nostalgia through the eyes of a five year old. The blue-grass track "Coolest Pair" teams up the narrator with the likes of "Frosty" and "Rudolf" for some winter fun. "Slow as Christmas" has the singer questioning the validity of that old saying in an upbeat number. On the softer side we get "The Kid", a take from an adult who still believes in the magic of Christmas and "Under the Mistletoe", a romantic number about a wish that a kiss 'neath the mistletoe is more than just a peck based on the tradition. The other numbers are just as worthy.

The quality of the material matched with the budget price make this a must-buy for anyone looking for some new and unique music for the holidays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every song feels like Christmas, December 14, 2000
This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
This has become a Christmas staple around our house. Even though they are all originals, written by Clint himself, each and every one is just so darn Christmassy. There are romantic songs, fun songs that the kiddies will enjoy, and a couple of religious ones. All sung with Clints unique country voice. The booklet has all the lyrics, and opens up into a beautiful Christmas fresco. One of my favourites is the heart-touching 'The Kid'. Clint sure does have a talent for writing lyrics. If you buy this album, I guarantee it will become a holiday favourite in your home too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas present in more ways than one., November 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
This is a terrific Album Christmas or otherwise. I sometimes even listen to the tracks when it's not Christmas. I highly reccomend this album to everyone. Clint Black is a great song writer, singer and artist. The one thing I always liked about him was his unique ability to create new sounds that still sound traditional.

The tunes "Birth of the King" and "Looking for Christmas" have that traditional feel, as if they were written in the same genre as "God Rest Ye merry Gentleman" and "What Child is this". "The Finest Gift" and "Under the Mistletoe" are very modern romantic tracks that give an emotional overtone to the album. Clint Black does not forget the kids or his country roots, he has some great ones that should be considered classics along the lines of Rudolph and Frosty like "Coolest Pair". "Til Santa's Gone" is a fun and wonderful song with great rhythm and harmonicas compliments of Mr. Black and funny little dialogue at the end which makes the whole song worth it. Not since Elvis have I heard such great original Christmas songs that are destined to become new classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Country Christmas CD, December 7, 1999
By
This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
This is the most original Christmas CD I've heard. The songs are catchy and clever; and as always, Clint Black wrote them all. It is refreshing to hear new songs about Christmas instead of just hearing famous artists doing the same old tired songs.

This is a great Christmas CD! Not like other musicians who put out the same old Christmas blah-blah-blah! Great tunes that are spirit filled! This has become our family's favorite Christmas CD. We highly recommend giving this as a present! Good job Clint!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Soon to be Classic..., November 27, 1999

This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
Maybe my opinion is biased (I DO live in Texas, after all), but I think that this CD is THE BEST Christmas album around. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes country music, Clint Black, and/or Christmas. The songs are excellent, the music is very good, and Clint Black is... Well, Clint Black! The best part is, they're not the "classical" Christmas songs, and, at the same time, they manage to be (gasp) good! An excellent CD!

I'm not a country music afficionado by any means, but after someone loaned me this alblum I was sold on Clint Black. Although there are country idioms throughout, the lyrics are more Christmas than Country and are driven by strong melodies and good production values. This collection introduces what I consider six new standards into the christmas music catalog. An amazing amount of work for any artist, country or otherwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, December 18, 1999

This review is from: Looking for Christmas (Audio CD)
This CD is truly a wonderful addition to any Christmas collection, whether you are a country fan or not. The compilation is original and beautiful and (if you play it on random with other artists mixed in) you may never get tired of listening to it. I hope they re-release it as I would love to get one for a friend and am now unable to do so. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
