A REFRESHING LOOK AT THE MANY PATHS TO GOD,

This review is from: Looking for God: A Seeker's Guide to Religious and Spiritual Groups of the World (Paperback)
This is a refreshing, unbiased, objective source of information about all religions. In addition to his extensive factual research, Mr. Sadleir indicates that he attended and participated in activities of all these religions, and actually spent time with the leaders and and members of each congregation so that he could write about them accurately. This is what I like most about this book; it contains no hearsay nor innuendo. Look through the pages and find what suits you best. As the founder of the Self Awareness Institute in California, Mr Sadleir has done a lot of work so readers can exercise their right of choice and experience the joy of spiritual freedom. Concise brief chapters share the history, belief systems, practices, location, leaders, addresses, phone numbers, and web sites of each religion. Highly recommended!

Wonderful!,

This review is from: Looking for God: A Seeker's Guide to Religious and Spiritual Groups of the World (Paperback)
I first purchased this book 10 years ago under the title, " The Spiritual Seeker's Guide". Once I found what I was searching for, I sold the book at a yard sale. Since then I have purchased two more copies for a friend and a family member, because I told them how informative this was in giving basic beliefs and histories to the many different religions. Now I am buying a third copy to keep for myself, in case I should ever want to lend it out. I had difficultly tracking this down.. the author has since updated the material, and changed the title of the book. This is great for plain & simple basics.

This book is perfect for the spiritual seeker. It gives you a good overview of all the religions and perhaps insight
as to why we are where we are in the world today. I have read Mr. Sadleirs bio, which is quite impressive, and feel this is a must read for everyone with an open mind. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. Self-realization: An Owner-User Manual for Human Beings

One of my most favorite resources!,

This review is from: Looking for God: A Seeker's Guide to Religious and Spiritual Groups of the World (Paperback)
This book is NOT the most definitive guides to the world's religions and faith traditions, but it gives a great cursory overview (with resources for further study) for a great many of them. I use this book in conjunction with "A Sourcebook of the World's Religions" by Joel Beversluis frequently. If you are looking for indepth theological information, this may not be the book for you....however, if you are searching or shopping for faith or are interested in interfaith/inter-religious issues, by all means, this book is recommend without reservation. Highly recommended for students of comparative religion, cultural anthropology, and related subjects.

I love this book and I highly recommend it! It is a fantastic account of years of research of every religion known. Steven Sadlier along with book research actually personally met with the people of each faith, went to their services, understood what they are about. The years and decades this process took him is actually a gift to all of us readers who can finally just pick up a book and visit to all these places with him! Extraordinary!

Wonderful Resource for Religious Studies,

This review is from: Looking For God: A Seeker's Guide to Religious and Spiritual Groups of the World (Paperback)
This is a great resource for anyone studying philosophy or religion. It is a compilation of most of the world's religions traditions. The author personally studied and experienced these traditions, so it is unusual in that the book is both scholarly and personal, but unbiased. It is not an in depth discussion of every religion, for that would take volumes. The book describes each of these religious traditions succinctly and gives the reader tools to follow up on whichever path strikes his/her fancy at the moment. Highly Recommended Reading

Another great book by Guruji, Steven Sadleir. He seems to summarize most all the major religions with well researched clarity, and presents them with an unbiased reporting. If you wanted to have a general understanding of what this world has to offer us in different approaches to that, which is beyond words, this is a great place to start. I found it interesting that Mr, Sadleir left me with great respect for all religions and spiritual groups. It is very obvious the authors intention to show the reader the uniting factor in what can seem so divisive.
cheers

For years, I have been wanting to learn about different religions without having biased views. In Looking for God, Steve Sadleir does an amazing job of describing all the different religions that are found around the world. Also, this book is a bit like a dictionary. I can look up anything and read a short snippet and learn. This book has taught me everything I wanted to know about the religions of the world and has allowed me to form my own opinion. I highly recommend Looking for God to everyone who has questions on religions of the world... A great book/dictionary!!
