As the storm punishes his ship, Satan's Revenge, Morgan "Blackheart the Pirate" Farrell expects to die. However, Morgan can't find respite in the storm because his vile enemy Thomas Low has escaped from below. The pair duel and Morgan is winning when lightning strikes his sword and eventually Morgan falls over aboard.

When he regains consciousness, Morgan finds himself on the beach of his retreat island just off of Florida. To his shock a woman Kate Cameron and her child Casey are also there. His own centuries-old hut stands in ruins. Morgan learns that somehow he has been propelled into the future. As he beings to love the widow and her six year old daughter, Morgan finds out that his old enemy has joined him the future.

Readers LOOKING FOR A HERO need only read Patti Berg's latest time travel tale to find a genuine candidate. Morgan is a passionate, understanding person, who struggles with the evil that destroyed his family even as he wants to start anew with the Cameron females. Kate is a kissable person, whose loneliness makes her vulnerable and thus under the pirate's protection. The time travel story line is well written, though readers will have to leap as far Morgan and Thomas did to accept the premise. Still a great story that will thrill the most romantic of time traveler fans.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute escapism, despite the annoying pirate-speak, June 13, 2005

Kate and Casey Cameron are stranded on a private island when a storm washes their sailboat to shore. It manages to wash someone else to shore: a pirate (complete with scars and eye patch) who travels nearly 300 years in the future. Despite her reservations, she brings Morgan "Black Heart" Farrell back to St. Augustine and lets him stay with her (all the while thinking he has a screw loose).

"Looking for a Hero" is a funny fish out of water story about a man dumfounded at what has become of the world since he last set sail, determined to return to where he belongs to seek vengeance on the pirate that destroyed his life. Of course the Kate and Morgan fall for each other, but it is an interesting journey, fraught with a lot of pirate-speak almost to the point of annoying.

When his mysterious ship settles on the shore, and a series of murders occur, Kate has to question whether he is sane or not, and could he possibly be the culprit?

Will they succumb to their feelings, and more importantly, will they part or attempt to live in the other's world? Breezy escapist story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Romance Novel!, June 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Looking for a Hero (Mass Market Paperback)
There is no way any stuff that happens in this book will ever happen in real life, but this book is a wonderful romance book full of great tales and wonderful imagination. If you are a person who loves to daydream about their "hero" than this book is for you. It is a very light hearted and easy read but that is what makes this book wonderful. It takes you away from the daily hustle and bustle of your life into a world where anything can happen...if only for a moment. I highly recommend this book if you love fairy tales and romance or if you just want to get away from real life for a while...I am off to buy another of Patti Bergs today!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my fave Patti Berg Novel so far!!!, October 9, 2001

I do not believe that this book is too religious. In fact I didn't find it religious at all. Most people pray to a god when they think their life is in danger. I also didn't feel as though this book was missing anything either. i read it in one day! I could not put it down. I am so glad Ms. Berg added the Epilogue at the end. I would have been upset if I did not know what the future held for the 2 characters. If you haven't read this book yet, go out and get it right away, you won;t be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lok No Further - Great Hero Inside, February 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Looking for a Hero (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is truly wonderful. It has several things in its favour:

* No neurotic heroine obsessed with pirate paraphenelia. She doesn't even own a pirate hat, which is a relief considering the last book by Patti has a heroine totally fixated on the "dead" hero until she even bought his house (talk about neurotic).

*Likeable hero in dear Morgan and a heroine who, for one, is not the run-of-the-mill "I am too darned busy with my career and I hate all guys because my ex was a creep so STAY AWAY MISTER" type.

*I didn't even feel like spanking the daughter.

*The climax is truly exciting.

*I actually care for these two people and the lil' girl. The romance is believable and nice to read.

BUT

Somehow, it still isn't a keeper. Something's missing, but I really can't figure out what it is. But still, a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars a little too religious for my taste, December 29, 1998

Great story! A little too much "please God", "say a prayer" in the dialog that it became distracting. Over all a very good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Every good pirate has a plan.", April 25, 2001
This review is from: Looking for a Hero (Mass Market Paperback)
So states Morgan "Blackheart" Farrell, to some a pirate, to others "Robin Hood of the High Seas." When his ship is suddenly caught up in an otherworldly 'Bermuda Triangle,' Morgan finds himself cast ashore on the same island as widow Kate Cameron and her daughter, Casey, have found themselves stranded--all by a hurricane no one else seems to have experienced. Trouble is, he thinks it's 1702 and it's really 1998. Worse--not only did he travel nearly 300 years into the future, but so did his ship and his arch enemy, Thomas Low.

Having lived through the tragic loss of her husband, Kate is getting on with her life but definitely not ready to lose her heart to, of all people, a man claiming to be a pirate. But as time passes, events occur that lead Kate to change her mind about Morgan---in more ways than one, as he, at the same time, struggles with choices that will keep him with Kate or send him back to the past without her.

With BORN TO BE WILD, Patti Berg became an automatic-buy for me and I was able to obtain all of her backlisted books. LOOKING FOR A HERO has a poignant love story, suspense, revenge, fast-paced delightful and believable dialogue, sympathetic characters and a hero to die for--all woven together in an endearing romantic style that is totally Berg.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can I have my own HERO??? PLEASE!!!!, February 20, 2001
This review is from: Looking for a Hero (Mass Market Paperback)
Looking for a hero is not your typical time travel romance novel. For starters it is the guy (Morgan aka Black Heart) who is brought into the future. He is in a fierce storm and somehow his arch enemy Thomas Low escapes from the gallows and they begin to fight. Morgan is winning and then....WHAM....he is hit by lightening and transported to the future where he washes up on an island beach in FL. On the island he is surprised to find Kate and Casey Cameron. Kate is a woman who has lost her first true love husband to a robbery and is afraid to love again. But the chemistry between Morgan and Kate is almost instant and in now time Kate has taken Morgan into her home and is trying to help him return to the past. But is this really what he wants????? Did you forget Thomas Low (the arch enemy)? Well don't, because strange murders start to happen all over town.....This was a delightful book and for once I am not going to give away the ending....read it for yourself.
