A Laurel Heights Novel, Book 4

Gwendolyn Pierce has a secret. A big secret.

No one knows that the gourd artist is really the missing Grape Princess—the wine heiress who ran away fourteen years before. And that's the way Gwen likes it. No paparazzi recording her every mistake, no stern family disapproving of her life. She has her gourd shop in Laurel Heights and lives in peaceful bliss.

Until she meets Rick Clancy.

The last person she should get involved with is a private investigator who finds her as suspicious as he does sexy. Only she can't help herself, and she can't help wondering if she can trust him with her secrets—and her heart.

2.0 out of 5 stars Minor and major errors ruined it for me May 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've really enjoyed all of the other Laurel Heights series so far. While I still enjoyed these characters and Gwen and Rick's relationship, I was constantly brought out of the story by the grammatical errors and overall lack of proofreading. I can usually get over this in a kindle book, but I absolutely couldn't get rid of a glaring error made by Ms. Perry. Trust and opening up is the hardest thing for Gwen and keeps her from getting closer to Rick...pretty much the crux of their romantic conflict. So it is a really big deal when she finally opens up to Rick a little in the swimming pool scene, and drops a little tidbit about her past. She describes how her grandmother taught her to swim and was her favorite person in the world... pretty big deal, right? Boy, was it disappointing when 50 pages later she tells Rick her grandmother died and he replies "I didn't know you had a grandmother"...What?!?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the gals of Laurel Heights November 16, 2012
By dianesy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't normally read romance novels, as they all seem the same, just the names and places changed. But I downloaded one of Kate's for free. I loved it, and purchased all of her Kindle Books. Her stories are actual stories, not just the standard romance formula. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a "feel good"escape.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another cute and charming read from Kate Perry September 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was another cute and charming read by Kate Perry. I've been waiting for the pairing between Gwen and Rick and this book did not disappoint. In previous books you could definitely sense the chemistry between these two. Yes, they was some hostility between them, but there was definite sparks flying. I loved both Gwen and Rick together. Not only were their scenes together hot but just I loved the dynamics between them.

Gwen is a local gourd artist and has always been a less forth coming about herself and her past. She gets along with everyone with the exception of Rick Clancy. Gwen knows that if she has intention of keeping her past a secret she needs to keep away from the sexy private eye. No one can find out that she's actually the long lost Grape Princess. If they do, her quite life that she's come to treasure will be at an end.

Rick knows that Gwen is hiding something. He's not exactly sure what it is, but his gut is telling him there is more to her story and his gut is never wrong. So he begins to observe Gwen in the hopes of finding what she's hiding. But the more time he spends observing her and talking with her, Rick is finding her charm hard to resist. Not only is she charming, but she's just so cute and sexy.

I loved watching these two finally let down their walls and get together. The chemistry between them is great and they are both hot together. Like I said before, I really enjoyed this book and I am really enjoying Miz Perry's Laurel Heights series and I can't wait for more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Flat characters and predictable plot line June 4, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I wanted to like this book. I really, really tried to like this book! But I just couldn't get into it. I haven't read the other books, so maybe that makes a difference. But on it's own, this book is flat and repetitive. I wasn't looking for grand literature, but a nice summer read would have been nice. Instead of developing the characters and giving them depth, the main characters repeat the same feelings and thoughts over and over and over again. I wanted to cheer for Gwen and Rick, but there wasn't enough depth to them to really care about them as a couple. I felt like the author had a good idea for a story; as if she could possibly be a pretty good writer, but she really needs to focus on making her characters a little less shallow and a little more lifelike. I also felt like the whole Camille/Dylan storyline was out of place, like it was another book altogether. I'd rather have seen some of Gwen's siblings or friends developed further. Or if the Camille/Dylan line is important, to develop it even farther and give it a bit more tension in the story as a whole. Overall this book had the lines of promise--it just never gets there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good! A 3 1/2 Star Read June 3, 2013
By Meme
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book as a free read; just something I hoped would hold my interest to help pass the time while sun bathing this pass Sunday. I could not put it down! I stayed up all night & it was at rough Monday; but I did not come home to sleep; I came straight home to finish the story. This is a first Kate Perry for me and look forward to reading others. I usually don't like just romance stories but romance with more battery and danger. I could visually the two characters Gwen and Rick, however the others needed more meat.

5.0 out of 5 stars another winner October 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really like Kate Perry's books. They are a great get away from reality! The characters interact well, the writing is not heavy. Her stories are interesting and I like the characters! I only wish I didn't finish them in a day or two... But then I get to go back and savor them another time. I highly recommend all of the Laurel Heights books!

3.0 out of 5 stars Errors drove me crazy November 20, 2013
By KathyR
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I like this author. I have read most of the books in this series. I was very disappointed in this one. Plot was good, but all the typos errors drove me crazy. One or two is understandable, but when it should say she instead or he or vice versa it makes me wonder did anyone proof read this book? Not one of her better works.

More About the Author

Kate has tangoed at midnight with a man in blue furry chaps, dueled with flaming swords in the desert, and strutted on bar tops across the world and back. She's been kissed under the Eiffel Tower, had her butt pinched in Florence, and been serenaded in New Orleans. But she found Happy Ever After in San Francisco with her Magic Man.

Kate's the bestselling author of the Laurel Heights Novels and Summerhill series, plus a few other books thrown in. She's been translated into several languages and is quite proud to say she's big in Slovenia. All her books are about strong, independent women who just want love.

Most days, you can find Kate in her favorite café, working on her latest novel. Sometimes she's wearing a tutu. She may or may not have a jeweled dagger strapped to her thigh...
