Book Description

August 2002
Alan Cohen shares this thoughts, dreams, humor, and compassion in fifty-two engaging essays. The book, Cohen says, is about "taking our power back from external authorities and living the life we would choose, the life that calls us by virtue of the voice of joy within us."

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

A syndicated columnist and contributor to the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, Cohen has long been associated with the Unity churches, and the publisher hopes that this volume will mark the beginning of a long and happy partnership. For the most part, Cohen's wisdoms are easily recognizable nuggets of spiritual insight concerning self-nurture and the surprises of enlightenment in daily life. But he writes effectively and engagingly, and his notions include believers and doubters of all sorts. For most collections.

This review is from: Looking in for Number One: Adventures in Uncommon Sense (Paperback)
Energy and happiness have little to do with what is going on around you and a lot to do with what is going on inside you. ~Alan Cohen

Alan Cohen's words can at times affect me profoundly. His message of love and hope causes me to peacefully consider his words, laugh with amusement or find myself in tears. He has a rare appreciation for beauty, lives his life with a sense of awe and sees synchronicity at work in his life.

Through dreams, humor, personal experiences and vital lessons, he leads the reader through fifty-two chapters of inspiring thoughts. You might want to read a chapter each week to keep yourself inspired and progressing towards a positive pathway. There are questions for reflection at the end of each chapter. A few of the creative chapter titles:

Stronger than Hope
Signs When You Need Them
Passion and Prayer
Date with Destiny
Relationship 101
How to Make a Fortune
Pray Outside the Box

Whether Alan is exploring ancient Egyptian tombs, hiking trails on Maui or telling stories of French resort towns, you journey with Alan into the land of possibility and humor.

Sometimes it appears that you are at the end of your trail, when you are really at the beginning. ~Alan Cohen

He has one of the most healing views of life I've ever encountered. Since reading his books I see life in a much more positive way and often have to laugh at my own tendency towards drama.

Alan's books bring me back to the roots of love before I uproot my life. He is a natural storyteller and has introduced me to a number of movies and creative ideas about life. This book is a journey into healing, wisdom and awakening.
