Book Description

0807748358 978-0807748350 December 1, 2007 2
This expanded second edition provides teachers and administrators with strategies and resources for working together to examine and discuss student work, such as essays, projects, art work, math problems, and more. Providing real examples of how educators can do this, the authors describe three structured conversations, or protocols: the Collaborative Assessment Conference, the Tuning Protocol, and the Consultancy. The book also offers case studies from schools that developed their own protocols.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Any group of teachers, parents, or community members could use [this book] to participate in the hard work of assessing where our schools are and how they can improve. --From the Foreword to the first edition by Kathleen Cushman

This is a probing and practical guide….I commend these practices of looking together at student work as powerful resources not just for the technical but for the cultural enterprise of education. --From the Foreword by David N. Perkins, Professor of Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Senior Co-Director of Harvard Project Zero

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking Together at Student Work: A Companion Guide to Assessing Student Learning (Series on School Reform), January 31, 2006
Excellent resource for schools looking for a concise reporting of different ways to look at data and student work. Guidance and considerations for first timer groups as well as thoughtful advice to teams trying to develop norms and procedures, while avoiding serious setbacks from needless mistakes. We have purchased multiple copies of this book for our team after positive reviews from primary and intermediate teachers alike.
