what a fun book!, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Looking for Uncle Louie on the Fourth of July (Hardcover)
This charming book offers kids a great story framed by vivid artwork. Boys especially will love the low-rider theme. It's a fun read no matter how many times through!

A nice book, but ONE major flaw., June 17, 2011
This review is from: Looking for Uncle Louie on the Fourth of July (Hardcover)
I loved the charm of this book. It's a story about what's really important to remember on July 4th: All Americans have roots in other countries, traditions are important, and family is what makes us whole. Beautiful illustrations, a smooth pace and a lovely, tender ending.
Why not FIVE stars, then? Don't talk about SOLDIERS in the text, and show MARINES in the illustration. Poorly done. A little UN - patriotic, I think, to be talking about the groups that keep and defend this nation - on INDEPENDENCE DAY, and get the picture wrong. Remember, a Marine is a Marine, a sailor is in the Navy, a soldier is in the Army, and an Airman is in the Air Force. They all have different uniforms for a reason - they are not the same.
Is it unkind of me to knock a star off of the review for an error in ONE illustration? Call it the prerogative of a SOLDIER's daughter. (And now I've said my peace.)
