Safe Browsing Protects Users from Phishing and Malware

As more and more smartphone users access the internet, email, and social networks from their phone the risk of fraud becomes more real. Malicious websites can easily be stumbled upon while using a mobile web browser or casually clicking on a link in an email, instant message or Facebook post. Criminals also know that the smaller screens and frequent use of smartphones mean that users are more susceptible to online fraud than they would be at a desktop computer. To combat this growing threat, Lookout has introduced Safe Browsing.

As a component of Lookout Premium, Safe Browsing protects smartphone users from phishing and malware sites they might encounter while emailing, texting and surfing the web. Without slowing down your phone, Safe Browsing examines every website in real-time and automatically blocks access to unsafe sites - guarding users from identity theft, financial fraud or phone hijacking. With Safe Browsing, smartphone users can:

Introducing SafeBrowsing
  • Safely surf the web, email, text, bank and use social networking sites from any smartphone or tablet
  • Click with confidence on links from Facebook, email, text messages and more
  • Stay protected from the latest online threats with real time cloud-based protection
Antivirus and Security:
  • Block malware and spyware
  • Download apps without worry
  • Scan every app before installation and update to make sure it is safe
  • Runs silently in the background, schedule regular scans
  • Save a copy of your contacts
  • Access your data over the air on Lookout's website
  • Restore your data to an existing phone
Find My Phone:
  • Pinpoint your phone's location on a map
  • Activate a loud alarm to find it nearby, even if it is on silent

There are those who feel that having security on an Android smartphone isn't necessary, or that it can slow down your device. These are misconceptions, as any device that connects to the Internet can and will eventually be hit, and should it happen, the results can be disastrous. And there are some apps that will not slow your Android device down.

Lookout Mobile Security is a proven product that does more than offering basic antivirus protection. It offers a wide range of highly effective mobile device-specific security features, and it does this with a minimal performance hit on your Android smartphone. It should be noted that users with a Kindle Fire HD should look for the Lookout Mobile Security (Kindle Tablet Edition) app, as this one is slightly different.

The 8.4.1 version that was the latest at the time of this writing is less than 5.2MB in size, and it's a fast download that takes less than 60 seconds. Once installed it will protect your device from malware, viruses, and spyware, but be sure that your device is running Android 2.1 or newer.

I tested this app on my Samsung Galaxy S III, and it took just a couple of minutes to open Lookout, select the Security module, and then run a full scan... just like you would do with your computer. I spent about fifteen minutes following the prompts and setting up Lookout Mobile Security and everything ran smoothly. It asked for my email address and a private password (no problem as this app carries the TRUSTe seal). It did a full security scan, and luckily found no dangerous files.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have app for peace of mind in a mobile world March 22, 2011
I'm new to the whole mobile scene, so I knew I needed something to keep me in check when it came to downloading stuff. As a download/app junkie on other devices, I knew it would be no different with my Droid 2. I found Lookout by browsing through the android app store and was blown away that this is being offered for free. You can have all your downloads instantly and seamlessly scanned without you ever really knowing that it's monitoring you. A little icon sits in your tray but besides that, you won't know it's protecting you. You can sign up to have a weekly email sent to you from the website to inform you of changes to your phone and to see where you stand in security for your device. If your phone is lost or stolen, you can lock it remotely from the website and even have it scream (let off a sound) to alert others or even you of it's location.

There is a pay version that opens up some premium features but I haven't done that as of yet. I haven't written it off yet, but it's there if I need it. For everyone like me who wants peace of mind on their mobile device, you can't get much better than Lookout Mobile Security.

5.0 out of 5 stars To the haters... June 9, 2011

Numerous people are saying that anti-malware is not needed on android. What rock did you crawl out from under? Android is the new, favorite target for viruses and malware. If it does not work on your phone, fine... the developers can not account for EVERY configuration.
I use a Droid X on Verizon and I have NONE of the issues that these other supposed Droid/Verizon users have.
And as far as Verizon saying its bad, Verizon's position is that if anything is wrong with the phone, it must be an app so reset the phone and tell the client not to load certain apps. They have no basis in fact to blame this particular app any more than any other. And it does not drain your battery unless you have it configured to backup every 10 seconds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Security January 1, 2013

so far I am very pleased. This product is installed on my cell and tablet. It allows me track my devices, make them 'scream', lock them, track them and/or wipe them if they have been stolen. I particularly love this as any thief would find themselves in possession of worthless unusable devices with the risk of getting caught with them. Love that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for everyone April 20, 2011

I've never lost a phone, and I hope I never do, but it's nice having access to feature that will help me recover my phone and data.

I mostly use Lookout for the Privacy Advisor. I can see all the apps that have been granted different permissions. It's already been useful, I looked at which apps access my contacts/personal information, and it's surprising how many apps have access to those that have any need for them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lookout for lookout! September 9, 2013
Verified Purchase
I read the reviews carefully & decided to give it a try for my android. Two complaints: too many permissions are required that are not necessary for doing their job,...too nosey. After downloading, my smartphone began locking up. At first I thought it was a problem with the phone. But after removing this software realize it was a problem with Lookout. Uninstalled it and everything was fine.

UPDATE: After uninstalling Lookout Antivirus, I continued testing various anti virus apps. Then I ran across Spyware Shield a few weeks ago. Spyware Shield is a much smoother less invasive program & worth keeping, least so far so good. Cost a few dollars but well worth it for the peace of mind & quiet, smooth hassle free operation. I am finding that buying the paid version of an app is often better & less hassle than trying to get by on the cheap with a free version, least when it comes to an important app like virus protection.

Same thing happened to me, but, thankfully, Verizon said this was a known issue with the app, so I uninstalled it before trying a new phone. My phone works great again.
