Easy to learn and fun to play.

Like most card games you have a set of rules but as the game play continues the rules are always changing as do the conditions for winning the game.
Richard Boyd
I am also a fan of sci-fi and the reference in Star Fluxx are nice little bonuses.

Being a Fluxx player for several years, and a complete sci fi geek, I leapt on this when it came out. It is great fun, but NOT a good way to introduce new players to Fluxx. There is a substantial level of complexity added by the fact that many Keepers have additional powers, and there are more Creepers. This makes the games longer and requires more focus & concentration. Like all Fluxx games, tho, once you get past the learning curve, it's completely addictive.

To introduce new players, I remove all the creepers and the goals & actions involving creepers, but even then, you tend to end up with lots of rules and cards in play. if you are looking for a first Fluxx game, I recommend Pirate Fluxx (or, perhaps the standard Fluxx game. I don't know if they've added more complexity to Fluxx 4.0), because Star Fluxx really requires at least one player with experience, who must keep track of all the rules & possibilities until the rest of the players come up to speed.

Nonetheless, this is a terrific game & a welcome addition to the Fluxx family.

If you've never played FLUXX, then this is a fine introduction to the game. All versions share similar rules and the basic game is original and fun, with nary a learning curve to stop novice players from enjoying it. If you are (or know someone who is) a sci-fi movie fan, then this is a must buy. Most movies and shows in the genre are referenced in thinly veiled quips that consistently bring a smile to my face. FLUXX itself is a fun game even for 2 people, although the entertainment increases with more people. I am quite pleased with the purchase.

I found this game through the web series Tabletops. I have played it a few times with family and friends and enjoy it very much. Every game is different since the rules are always changing. That is what makes it so much fun.

I have even begun ordering some of the Promo cards from Amazon to enhance the game play.

Not quite sure if I agree with the age 8+ as some cards have special powers or are affected by other cards and that concept could be challenging for them to grasp. I bought it to play with my 8 yr old nephew and think he might have trouble with that part of the game.

We own original, zombie, martian, pirate and star. While we do play the others we always choose this one first. When playing with new players we always choose this version as well. Our favorite, by far. We really enjoy the Keepers in this version as most have additional "powers" that go along with them. Also, the surprise cards are lots of fun (or a pain in the arse, depending on what end you are on, lol).

Fluxx gets a lot of tepid reviews from players claiming the game is too random and contains too much luck. Well, those aspects are true. You can totally be winning at one point and in the very next turn, you'll be furthest away from victory. As long as you are aware of this element, Fluxx is an entertaining little card game.

I use Fluxx to introduce my friends and family to the deeper world of board games. Its just nice to be able to share your hobby with others and not intimidate them. I am also a fan of sci-fi and the reference in Star Fluxx are nice little bonuses.

Sometimes you win a lot. Sometimes you lose a lot. Its really about how much of it feels controllable. By yourself, its absolutely manageable. Oh but this is a game with others. How foolish to expect any outcome at all. Well at some point you'll draw a correlation between who you play with and how much you enjoy the game. You might not like the results, but therein lies the most important choice you'll ever make in this game: who you play with.

There is nothing bad to say about this game. I is easy to learn, addicting to play, and it has fostered some of my favorite gaming moments. Get a group of people around a table. You can teach them this game in five minutes, and whether you play for 20 minutes or two hours, by the time you leave the table, you will have had a blast and learned something about your friends. A great gift for scifi fans, and a perfect pick for family game nights.

I picked this up for a relative after having played the original Fluxx years ago. There's a lot of cool, funny, clever stuff in this deck. Unfortunately, with all the complexity they introduced they also created a lot of ambiguities. The entire backside of a the long rule sheet is a FAQ. Basically, it's all to try to address various ambiguities and loopholes. I found even more of these FAQs online. To me, this takes away a lot of the spirit of the game, which is that the basic rules are minimal and the cards tell you what to do. Instead, the cards bring up questions they never address. We ran into two ambiguities that dared to cause a ragequit each time because there was no way to resolve it without some higher authority having addressed it.

I'd recommend sticking to the basic Fluxx, if they even sell it any more. It looks like they even added complexity to Fluxx 4.0 that might cause the same problem. The entire idea of Fluxx is complicated enough that it doesn't need ambiguity like this piled on top of it.
