4.0 out of 5 stars What you'd expect from Looney Toons

My son (age 7) and I were looking forward to this game because we both love the characters, and the concept of the game was very promising. Unfortunately, we only played through the first two levels of the game before giving up.

We loved the characters (primarily Bugs and Marvin) and the comments they made while playing, plus the occasional taunts by the villain. We also liked fighting the robots.

However, the Controls were the reasons we ended up sending back early. The nunchuck has to be twisted along it's axis in order to make the characters do a spinning attack, and several of the enemies are only vulnerable to that attack. Also, it's the only way to jump across several key gaps. The castle level has several of these longer jumps, and falling will take you back to the beginning of the series of four to five gaps.

Also, we were playing on a 36" standard TV. We tried splitting the screen both horizontally and vertically (horizontal ended up working best for us), but the Castle section was too dark and the characters too small to keep track of where we were. Several times, we were separated and had a LOT of difficulty finding one another. It was also easy to lose track of each other during the fights.

Honestly, I hope it does well enough to get a sequel, because it is a great idea for a game. However, this one just doesn't do it for us.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment, December 30, 2007

I really regret buying this game. Acme Arsenal fails on two levels, both as a video game and as a "Wii" game.

First, as a video game, Acme Arsenal is just a generic third-person shooter with a Looney Tunes look. You might as well be playing Tomb Raider. The game fails to capture the essence of Looney Tunes humor. Instead, you fight robots. Lots and lots of robots. Over and over again.

It should also be stated that the two-player split-screen mode was a really poor choice by the designers. As other reviewers have noted, the separate views for each player make it very easy for players to get separated. Furthermore the camera that follows your character is not very smart, so with only 1/2 of the screen, you will frequently find yourself in positions where you can't see the object onto which you need to jump.

Finally, as a "Wii" game, this is utterly uninspired. You twist and shake the controllers to perform attacks, but this is not any improvement over mashing button combinations. The movements are not natural or intuitive or fun.

What this game SHOULD have been was something along the lines of the Rayman Raving Rabbids games. Like the old Looney Tunes cartoons, Raving Rabbids is 5 or 10 minutes of crazy, laugh-out-loud fun.

Considering the Wii isn't the graphics powerhouse like PS3 or the 360, this game did really well with the graphics. The Gameplay wasn't too difficult to follow, and anytime you get to zap characters with marvin the martian and bareknuckle box with Foghorn Leghorn, you know you're going to have fun.

If I could change the game, I would create more levels, and make the views adjustable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good game, July 29, 2008

Acme Arsenal is a good game and is fun to play. I have been playing the game with my 6 year old grandson and with my 23 year old autistic son. We enjoy the action. We have found that using the horizontal split-screen works best for us. My autistic son likes watching Warner Brothers animated videos so he is familiar with the characters. He does not have the ability to really control the characters but he enjoys watching me going through the first level. My grandson and I have only been through the first two levels so far, but we have had fun doing that. This is certainly not the best Wii game out there but I think it is worth trying.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply Awful, poorly imagined and poorly done, January 4, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (Video Game)
It should have been a fun game. It should have been a game to play with the kids. It should have been an interesting addition to our video game library. It wasn't.

The game fails from the very first menu, and only gets worse. It's hard to figure out what you are trying to get to, and then when you get there, its near impossible to control.

Granted it's limited by the Wii's hardware, but the primary attack required a movement of the nunchuck that I was only able to get the system to recognize 1 out of every 10 times. This move is also required for any "long" jumps, so expect to die alot during the game.

So, abandoning the campaign, my son and I thought it would be great fun to play the battle mode. There are four maps. One map is too small to play even a two player game, and two are just too dark to play on. If I wanted my TV screen to be black, I would turn it off. That leaves one playable map. Unfortunately, the camera doesn't center on the characters view and its just as likely that I would be looking at my own character as to where he was going. Many times, we passed by each other just trying to get the camera to turn correctly, which unfortunately involves turning in a circle more than once.

The targeting system is near impossible to use. Basically, every single way a person interacts with the game is flawed to the extent that it becomes unusable.

I am truly disappointed, the weapon selection looked interesting. The character models were well done. If only they would have spent some time actually figuring out how someone could play the game, it could have been nice.

2.0 out of 5 stars What seemed like a good idea, Was a complete disappointment, June 16, 2008
A Kid's Review
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (Video Game)
My brother and I picked up this game because we thought it would be a great action game with nice multiplayer, almost like a Loony Tunes version of Ratchet and Clank (Which is what they make it seem like.) Turns out, it was a disappointment. The idea of this game was good, it's just that they didn't execute it very well. The controls is my biggest complaint. They were kind of confusing, and the "Spin the Nunchuk for a spin attack" Didn't even work most of the time. The story wasn't that great, It always takes forever to load, and the gameplay itself just wasn't very good. The only thing I have no complaints about are the graphics, but to me graphics are very unimportant. Do yourself a favor, and do not get this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars IT'S FREEZING HERE!!!, December 7, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (Video Game)
Personally I love the game- especially playing as Daffy. It's really not that hard for me yet, but I haven't reached the end. Why haven't I reached the end? BECAUSE THE DAMNED THING FREEZES!!! On the Playstation 2 it absolutely will not go past the Prehistoric era because it freezes! Everytime! And this is a brand new disk! The first time I'm playing! And guess what. So did the last two disks! The disk is perfect, my system is perfectly clean with no problems at all! Therefore I could not give this game more than a zero. Warner Brothers needs to apologize to every ps2 owner they ripped off. STAY AWAY FROM THE ps2 version. It is completely worthless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arsenal Fun, August 23, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (Video Game)
I bought this for my nephews, 8 and 13 and they love it. They both said the graphics are very good, fun challenges and cool characters. So far, I've been told the 'Pyramuddle' level is fun. Some of the controls can be difficult. Overall, it's a clean, fun game with some favorite characters.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs more development time., July 28, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal (Video Game)
This game could have been great, but it is obvious that there was no gameplay testing done. The motion controls were meant to work well, but they just don't. An essential motion-controlled attack is difficult to pull off until you learn how to do it (take nunchuk from 12:00 to 3:00 then back to 12:00 quickly). You must master this to pass certain spots. Physical combat with 3 or more enemies is frustrating and you're forced to spam the same move just to survive. The level design is pretty good, but cheap enemies, a poor camera, and "puzzles" that force you to take damage ruin any fun these levels could have. Melee combat is a LAST resort in this game, you MUST use the guns. This helps you survive the many enemies that exploit the poor controls/camera you have to use. Some puzzles are tough to solve, meaning you will die a few times. Unfortunately, the game actually has to LOAD when you die. You have infinite lives, so what is there to load? The game has checkpoints (thank goodness), but when you die after you reach a checkpoint, the enemies you killed before reaching that checkpoint will be right behind you ready to attack you before you know what is going on. It took me about 7 hours to finish this game and find a number of bugs, that is not too much time to ask from the devs to test their game and squash the above problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrifyingly Bad Game, July 15, 2011

Warner Brothers should be ashamed of themselves for letting this crap release under the Looney Tunes brand. In the 30+ years that I've been playing video games, this could be the single most frustrating title I've ever tried. What a great idea: a wacky co-op adventure featuring Bugs Bunny and friends. All they had to do was come up with something average, and the license would carry it. But no. Say hello to fighting through poorly designed levels while fighting with badly implemented controls and a lousy camera. Who'd've thought they could so thoroughly suck the fun out of this license?

The controls are incredibly fiddly, including the camera control (which you must use, because the automatic camera is terrible). Weird combinations of buttons and twists and shakes combined with a lack of accuracy make for frustration. There's no reason for it to be so complex; there are plenty of buttons on those controllers.

The level design is like a "how not to" clinic. There are tons of places where you can fall, either to have to re-climb up endless platforms or to die and wait for your partner to reach the next checkpoint. (God forbid you should die right after reaching a checkpoint -- be prepared to sit and watch for a while.) Ridiculously difficult enemies that require you to attack them *just so* with those awful controls are beyond frustrating. For example, in one level you fight these dragons that attack you from water by stretching their necks or shooting fire at you. If you step in the water you take damage; if you go in too far you die. But aiming and timing your attacks to coincide with the dragons' movements ain't easy. And when they hit you, you lose melee power, which means you do less damage, which means the whole things just drags on longer. You can run around to re-collect the power, but it disappears permanently after a few seconds. We haven't made it beyond that level, because the one time we managed to get past the first couple of dragons, one of the game's many software glitches left us stuck and unable to proceed. The game never again held our interest long enough to get that far in that level.

Even my young son, who loves the Looney Tunes as much as I do, gave up on this after a while. The only things it has going for it are the characters and a few one-liners. We went back to the Transformers 2 game, which we've already played through several times. It may be simple, but at least it's fun.
